Blizzard: No Diablo 3 Release for 2010

Recommended Posts

It better be worth the wait, that's all I'm saying.

Or what...?

Are we all forgetting the size and force of blizzard? Blizzard is definitely one of the gaming industry's juggernauts and clearly is not worried about releasing a game, a sequel at that, later than expected.

Who cares about Release date?

The MORE time they work on the game, the BETTER & BIGGER it will be!

You see ALL these games they announce and months later they come out?

They SUCK!!! They only have like 5-10 hours of Gameplay!

And, also, we already have An Official Diablo 3 thread. Redundant?

Up to a limit a big game takes longer time to develop. Then it's just inefficiency.

The announcement date has nothing to do with the development time. A game can be in development for a long time until announcement of it is made. Blizzard just likes to announce their games many years ahead of actual release, making for a long wait and hype.

Blizzard needs to stop working on World of Warcraft expansions and focus on a project that's been in the making for how many years now?. Seriously this is retarded and to be honest cataclysm looks like crap. Woop de doo, 2 new races, probably a couple new dungeons and level cap raised by 5?. I mean at least Lich King raised the cap by 10.

Blizzard needs to stop working on so many projects at once and focus on finishing one at a time. On the positive note at least SC2 will be out next year, so hopefully there will be enough content with that to carry us over till they release D3.

I prefer announcement is made soon, if it's a 8-10 years gap already, and WAIT :p

If you are talking about most other games, of course, 2-3 years is NOT a major deal they can announce it after it's developed for a couple years.

I really NEEDED to find out if there were working on Diablo 3, in any way!

  • 1 month later...

Not to derail but I think it would be frickin fantastic if they finally made the next Diablo iteration modder friendly. I think that game would never die. Imagine all the community content that would drive people to play it until their eyes bleed.

I don't understand why they show off games so far in advance before they're released.... people get all excited and by the time it's released people have already forgotten about it (not the hardcore fans I know....)

Amazingly, Blizzard is capable of hiring more than one person a year.

Even more amazingly they have different teams on different projects. SC2 and D3 aren't lacking in developers due to WoW. In fact, if anything, it would be the opposite: the extra money from WoW is being funnelled to their new developments, like any sane developer would do.

******** to your random whining about Cataclysm anyway, it looks great. You don't like it? Don't play it. But it's not affecting SC2 or D3. (PS. I've actually played Cataclysm.)

This is one reason why I love the way Valve handles their games. They are completely closed-mouthed until they are really ready to show stuff off. That is, unless it leaks, of course. But this is really upset me about Diablo 3. It looked near complete when they showed that demo. The graphics and everything were spectacular IMO.

Investors want something to show for the investment is my only guess.

Diablo 3 was in the works years before any announcement was made. If I recally correctly work started on D3 shortly after the release of WC3, it was originally in the works by Blizzard North which went defunct in 2005 (assuming they worked on it before that part of the company was killed off). So that is easily 3+ years of work BEFORE they announced it.

Now, I am not bashing Blizzard for the time it takes them to release a game, but 3+ years of development is a fairly long time for a game, now after this announcement we know it will not be here until 2011, which is 3 years after it was announced (2008). So right now we are looking at a 6+ year development cycle for Diablo 3, which is a very long time regardless of what company you are.

I am sure they will deliver a quality product when it is released, but developing the game for 3+ years then announcing it while it will not be released for another 3+ years is just stupid IMO.

Blue's have posted dev's have been stolen from SC2 to work on WoW

Why are people surprised? Blizzard takes a long time to release games. Thats why they are so polished and loved. Until they set a date, don't expect it to come out. And when they do, expect one more delay from that date.

very true

however SC2 has been under dev, for a LONGGG time, and the only reason its moving along this slow isnt quality, its WoW being put over it constantly

My point was that, Starcraft 2 and Diablo 3 won't be amazing, OMG so great.. games. Yes,they will be good games but not as good as people expect. They will copy the good things from other games, refine them a tiny bit and that's about it. And as I was saying, Blizzard lost some darn good people that lead the development of some of their best games.

IMHO, every game Blizzard has released since Warcraft: Orcs and Humans, has been nothing short of amazing.

I doubt the two projects share developers....but I could be wrong.

I'm not sure SC2 or D3 has the same massive audience WoW does... most people I play WoW with probably won't even buy SC2 or D3. I will... but most WoW players I know will probably not.

And Blue's is now definitive info? I'm sure they are still pretty reliable, but I'd need some more proof thana blurb at Blue's

Yeah I agree, From all the video and talked I thought i'll be seeing it pretty soon. If I save $1 a month till 2012 i think i can get it when its released.

Blizzard have strike teams, yes, and they help with products near release (pretty obviously only WoW stuff recently). Strike teams are temporary.

As SC2 nears release, members of the WoW and D3 teams will help them, and the same will occur near D3's release.

Well, given that blue posters are Blizz employees, you can't get much more official.

However, I'd still want a source for the statement of course :)

Blizzard so much don't share developers that the development teams are in different buildings. (I should know, I've been there.) Employees naturally move around, but it's not a case of having one pool of developers switching between products.

Hmmm, wasn't aware of that, but I agree, source or shens.

Aye - any blue text posts you see on official Blizzard forums = Blizzard employee. Can be a developer, but is normally either a community manager or support.

For example http://blue.mmo-champion.com/ collates them (for WoW) - these kinds of websites are colloquially called "blue trackers" :)

I konw, I understood that, I think the poster who said this was referring to Blue's News Feed . I concur with you, if it was a "blue" post on Blizzard's forums, it is likely credible. But if it was a Blue's News item, I'd call it 50/50 at best.
