spacer
It was a joke. I was being sarcastic, trying to express my angst for the fact that my two most wanted games are are continually put on the back burner. Jesus, calm down...

Treemonkeys
Enough with the WOW world. With all that revenue being generated, they should be reinvesting that back into the company to strengthen and develop new or preexisting franchises. Who's to say they haven't? People get so worked up about how long Blizzard takes, and it's common for people to blame WoW, but Blizzard has always been like this. This is why their games are so good. Think about the sequels we have seen churned out lately. Halo 3 to ODST, Gears of War to GoW2, even CoD2 up to CoD: WaW. For the most part they are glorified expansion packs with some minor game engine upgrades compared to a Blizzard sequel. Compare those games to Warcraft to Warcraft 3, Diablo to Diablo 2, even the WoW expansion packs have been a major upgrade to the game. Starcraft 2 will be amazing, Diablo 3 will be amazing, and the new battle.net will be amazing. Though I really don't understand why Blizzard gets so much attention for doing what they have always done - taking a long time to finish their games. I have to chalk it up to 'kids' being used to their console games being churned out yearly. It's not like we are stuck waiting in line or something, play other games, do other things, etc. The Blizzard games will be well worth the "wait" when they show up, and personally I would have been far more surprised if D3 came out as early as 2009. Well put. Blizzard has a long standing of putting a lot of QA into their products and that makes them worth the wait. Not only that, but Blizzard's games have a history of being insanely popular with active online players for years after the initial release. /fanboy (my opinion may be biased...I'm a big Blizzard fan who's put a ridiculous amount of hours into their games since the original Warcraft came out.) bob_c_b
Yea, people forget the maddening wait between Diablo I and II, and how they scraped their initial work and made huge changes far enough into the game dev cycle that most companies would have released it. I won't say I'm a Blizzard fanboy, but this isn't shocking in the least.

Originally it was planned as a RTS/RPG hybrid, at the last minute they ditched the whole RPG mechanics and made an RTS with upgradeable Hero units in it. And it was delayed and delayed. They make the best games, but it's not magic, it takes lots of time.

Diablo I - Released 1996 Diablo II - Released 2000 Diablo III - Released > 2010 Compared to Diablo II -> Diablo III, the Diablo I -> Diablo II wait time was nothing....even comparing from the start of development (somewhere around 2005) Diablo III still has a longer dev time than Diablo II did. I know they will release a quality product, they always do, but 6+ years to develop a game is a bit excessive. Even the "maddening wait" you mention from Diablo I to Diablo II is only a fraction of the wait time from Diablo II to Diablo III, comparing when Diablo III started development it is still a few years longer than D1 to D2. Malisk
From what I had earlier read on dii.net, a 2010 date sounded unlikely earlier too. :( It's too far ahead in time for me to get excited about... Maybe summer 2011 then. :p I hope not christmas 2011, that'd be a huge wait. :o
mr.biomech
Why are people surprised? Blizzard takes a long time to release games. Thats why they are so polished and loved. Until they set a date, don't expect it to come out. And when they do, expect one more delay from that date. This is what I was wondering also when I noticed the thread. I've been looking forward D3 being released 2012-13. If sooner than that, great. Also, as an overall thought; it amazes me how people are never happy. There are people complaining about that there is more content being released yearly/too fast (on WoW) and the same time they're whining for the long wait they have to endure to get games (SC2, D3). I can't think of any other company than Blizzard that has had solid good quality in it's releases and has continued supporting it's older games over the years. (Well, maybe Valve but that's it). I believe stardock does also, but its hard to say, with the way they are handling demigod(or not handling it) But for D3, yeah i didnt expect 2010, but it doesnt change the fact that they could have released a good quality SC2 if they didnt put all of their interest into WoW(Cause it makes them big $)
