PL_ Veteran Posted August 23, 2009 Veteran Share Posted August 23, 2009 Photo in iPhoto: Same photo in Preview: In Preview you can see the zip on the jacket and the hair's lighter. Only thing I could find in iPhoto that may affect it is Embed ColorSync Profile, which is enabled. The photo hasn't been modified, and I've seen this happen before. Any ideas? L0u1s
Maybe you hit the "Improve" button without knowing it? That's the only thing I could come up with...
Harreh
I immediately though that it's using a different colour profile. I remember this happening with photoshop. I'd make some art only to find when you view it in an internet browser it looks totally different.
ashpowell
Try disabling the colour sync ? I have the problem on windows with the photo viewer, everything gets a beige tint :(
PL_ Veteran Posted August 23, 2009 Author Veteran Share Posted August 23, 2009 I'm not sure disabling the ColorSync would help as surely it's already embedded into the file.

It probably will be, but that doesn't stop other things from ignoring that part of the file. Or if my PC doesn't have that colour profile, then it'll use a different one instead. +InsaneNutter MVC Posted August 23, 2009 MVC Share Posted August 23, 2009 If Macs use colour profiles (I guess thats what colour sync is?) it?s probably corrupt, the colour profile for my Dell 2208WFP makes everything look really yellow in Photoshop / Windows Photo Viewer, yet if I opened the image in Internet Explorer it would look normal. Simon Veteran Posted August 23, 2009 Veteran Share Posted August 23, 2009 What kind of files are they? RAW or JPEG?
PL_ Veteran Posted August 23, 2009 Author Veteran Share Posted August 23, 2009 What kind of files are they? RAW or JPEG? JPEG. Imported straight from the camera into iPhoto.
giga Veteran Posted August 23, 2009 Veteran Share Posted August 23, 2009 Can you show an example with a better photo? More colors and in daylight. What camera? Show me (upload somewhere) the photo before importing into iPhoto, to see if your camera stores a profile in the image. And then import that same image into iPhoto, and show me again if the color profile changed.
PL_ Veteran Posted August 24, 2009 Author Veteran Share Posted August 24, 2009 It's a Canon EOS 1000D. Original photo: http://yfrog.com/8bimg2184uj Original photo - screenshot from Preview Imported into iPhoto - screenshot from iPhoto Imported into iPhoto - screenshot from Preview Right, that's weird - in the OP the colours changed when the photo was taken out of iPhoto and viewed elsewhere, but in the OP I imported from the camera into iPhoto, whereas here I imported from camera to Image Capture then to iPhoto like you asked. Any ideas?
Elliott
I don't see a difference. I think that may be because I'm running Snow Leopard and my gamma is set at 2.2 now.
Phantom Helix
easy enough to change leopard to 2.2 but i don't see a difference in any of them either, what it your display brightness set to? Ive heard of some iMac displays getting weird color variations when the brightness is set to minimum for long periods of time, maybe something like that is happening
Prince Charming
It's not a problem with his physical display, because I can see variations on my end. I'm not even running a mac, it's a calibrated laptop screen. It's going to be colour profiles of some kind being applied somewhere along the line. Tracking down where will be the trick though :)
DirtyLarry Veteran Posted August 25, 2009 Veteran Share Posted August 25, 2009 I thought if you hold down a certain key combo when importing an image it would disregard the apps embedded color profile and load the images default one. At least I know Photoshop does that, so wondering if iPhoto does as well...
giga Veteran Posted August 25, 2009 Veteran Share Posted August 25, 2009 I can't get the link to the original photo to load. In addition, can you upload the "imported" iPhoto photo as well. (directly inside your iPhoto library in Finder) Make sure the color space in the 1000D is set to sRGB. Pandya is seeing the differences as well because you posted screenshots (that all have the same profile themselves), not the original photos.
