Gran Turismo 5 ?Major Advancement? Coming at TGS

Kazunori-Yamauchi-gamescom.jpg

Mere seconds after the throngs of GT fans gobbled up the news off the GamesCom show floor, eyes began to turn to the upcoming Tokyo Game Show for the next flood of Gran Turismo 5 info from Polyphony Digital. Today, we can tell you that excitement is not misplaced, as Kazunori Yamauchi has confirmed a ?major advancement? is coming to the show later this month. From his latest interview with G4TV:

G4: What are your plans for Tokyo Game Show?

Yamauchi: At E3, we showed a concept video and this time at Games-Com, we have a playable demo with damage, and I think you can expect a similar major advancement at TGS.

The full interview is definitely worth the read, though the interviewer seems pretty hung up on GT PSP?s development time. Mark your calendars ? TGS begins September 24 ? and we?ll have full coverage of everything GT at the show, right here on GTPlanet.

Thanks to Alexandre for the heads-up!

That is the thing, Forza doesn't "feel" that way. A real car doesn't "float" over the tarmac, they literally push down on the road (due to their weight) yet in Forza (although it has improved dramatically in 2 and I'm sure tweaked further in 3) felt somewhat weightless. GT on the other hand has a "weighted" feel, when you drive them you feel connected to the road and to a lesser extent* feel the road like you do in a real car. This is of cause only my personal opinion and I'm sure there are people who feel the opposite but for me this is how it is.

* = maybe that is just my wild imagination kicking in on that one :p, but it does feel more weighted in GT.

My only issue and concern with GT5 is that it will be similar to Prologue in how the cars handle. I was a big fan of GT3 and am still playing Forza 2, but when I got my hands on GT5: Prologue for some reason no matter what I did in that demo I would slow down. Turning was almost like braking, it just didn't make sense to me. Cars slow down when they turn, but it what happened in that game was beyond realistic.

Gamestop still saying 2010 then?

Yep..

I just don't get why they are not announcing the release date.. we know most of the games coming out this holiday season. What are they waiting for? December to announce it's coming out in December? PS3 Slim came, no announcement, GT PSP has release date, yet GT5 not. Something's fishy.

Confirmed? Gran Turismo 5 hits stores on Dec. 29

by Alex Nunez (RSS feed) on Sep 18th, 2009 at 4:01PM

gt5-pre-order.jpg

Well, we can put all the rumor-mongering to rest. Reader Larry Spector emailed us this morning with confirmation that Gran Turismo 5 will hit the shelves (and obliterate the productivity of thousands of PS3 owners) on December 29. Is Larry a sneaky Sony employee? Nope, he's a regular Amazon user like the rest of us, and today, GT5 showed up as a Gold Box item for him. The pre-order page now features the release date, so wives, girlfriends, and other assorted family members expecting holiday togetherness can now formally make plans to leave us alone as we spiral into full-on, anti-social gamer mode the week between Christmas and New Year's Day. Though, we have to say -- releasing the game before Christmas might have been the smart move, guys. Regardless, order's been placed. What're you waiting for?

Why not add another source to the pile? :p

;)

Also according to GTPlanet,

His presentation is on the 23rd 8:00 p.m. New York Time

No idea if that's the Sony keynote, or Kaz is having his own conference. Believe PD had their own conference for GT5P, and other past GT games at TGS.

Doubt we'll get all of that :(

Maybe not all at launch, but it's all very possible with DLC.

This will be Sony's flagship racer for many years. They don't pump them out quickly enough to keep people waiting (potentially another 5 years).

There's some core components above that kind of have to be in at release, not really through DLC. I mean a license plate editor could easily be DLC, but I doubt implementing club/team builders if they are what I think they are at a later date would be very effective.

Still, we'll know this week...

GTPSP advertisements have kicked off, pretty cool ad, obviously part of a series

I can't believe we don't have a full tracklist for GT PSP yet, launches in like 2 weeks (is it embargoed? I haven't even seen reviewers list all the cars). Probably will be as I assume all 800 cars are in GT5 and they'll be wanting to unveil the cars for GT5 this week...

Well I'm just thinking the type of features they have managed to release for Home with small-ish file sizes has brought a lot of new features just like clubs etc. But yeah I am thinking into this that the under lying frame work is already in place for it to be added, it just might not be ready for xmas release.

I've seen a lot more accomplished with DLC before in other games, a team builder is not a hard feature to pull off.

That ad just reminded me of a part of a Top Gear episode where Clarkson tries to beat his Playstation time in a Honda NSX around Laguna Seca.

Speaking of Top Gear I do wonder if the Test Track will be fleshed out at all with any kind of special scenarios, or just solely the track itself.

Press catching on now...

GT5 blow-out begins with Mercedes-Benz

Mercedes-Benz comes to Gran Turismo 5 as the game's blow-out starts before the Tokyo Games Show.

The engines are revving behind Polyphony Digital's PlayStation 3 racer Gran Turismo 5, as they launch the game's new website and get ready for another grande unveiling at the Tokyo Games Show later this week.

Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG, premi?red during the 2009 Internation Motor Show, will be featured in the game. The super sports car will also be on show in a playable version of GT5 during TGS.

The car features an "aluminium spaceframe bodywork with gullwing doors, AMG 6.3-litre V8 front centre engine with a maximum power of 420 kW/571 hp and dry sump lubrication, 7-speed double clutch transmission in a transaxle configuration, and sports suspension with aluminium double wishbone axles," as detailed by Auto123.com

The car will be released in the Spring of 2010, but GT5 is expected to release at the end of this year: TGS should be the place to announce the game's launch date.

Also, it seems Kaz can actually drive as well as make driving games:pp

Kazunori Yamauchi, Class Winner in the N?rburgring 4 Hour Race[/b]b>

photo09a.jpg

On August 29, in the 8th round of the VLN series round 8 at Germany's Nurburgring circuit, "Gran Turismo" series producer, Kazunori Yamauchi achieved a Class win in SP8 (engine "close to production" class / Lexus IS F). Mr Yamauchi had only experienced 2 races prior to this in normal cars. In his first racing car, in his first international race, and competing on the Nurburgring for the first time, this achievement proves above all else that training within Gran Turismo is truly effective.

I think we will get most of those features...most of them are just your basic online stuff like lobbies and online communication.

I'm more looking forward to how we will be able to tune and customize our cars.
