ultimate99
What would be better in an advertisement of ps3, a free game or a 2 year warranty instead of the standard 1? You could think the 2 year warranty do to the lens tend to break or something. Which would be more appealing?
KeeperOfThePizza
2 year warranty. Easily.
Bhav
It depends who the average consumer is. Those with some technical knowledge who are aware of the Xbox 360 issues, as well as PS2, will prefer the 2 year warranty because they'll know the cost of repairing/replacing it will probably outweigh the cost of buying a game. However, those with little knowledge about a console's tendency to break will just go for the game. Parents buying a gift for their kids would probably fall into this category if they don't know much about games etc Edit: everyone on neowin would most likely go for the warranty for the reasons I've stated. ultimate99
The target is obviously kids and teenagers, so I think the "free game" is the right choice?
Bhav
The target is obviously kids and teenagers, so I think the "free game" is the right choice? Yeah kids and teenagers who aren't in-the-know generally don't see the long term value in a warranty and would rather get free stuff now. So the game would probably work better in your case. Ricardo Gil
A free game doesn't make for a full year's worth of warranty. I guess grown-ups would always prefer the extended warranty instead of the game.
JD1695
Well, teens would go for the free game, while SMARTER people would go for the 2 year warranty, especially since Sony's past with the YLOD and forking out 150$ just to fix the damn thing. madd-hatter
I pretty much agree with all the above statements. But... What would look best in an advertisement? The option of one or the other. Everyone likes choice as their bonus prize.
-Clark-
I haven't had any problems with my PS3, nor did I purchase an extra warranty(nor do I for anything for that matter). So I'd go with the game, and I'm 25. If it breaks, it breaks. They don't make things to last, they build them to make money.
+dnast Subscriber² Posted August 25, 2009 Subscriber² Share Posted August 25, 2009 Personally I would choose an extended warranty for myself, but as an advertisement, a free game would sell more consoles, IMO. Also, the need to advertise an extended warranty of a console would probably cause some people to question the quality of the product since most people consider consoles a very low-maintenance investment. Razorwing
warrenty indeed. replacing a $300 system is obviously better than a $69.99 game.

MightyJordan
I'd go with the free game, as I've never had a problem with the PS3. It's the most reliable console of this generation for me. :)
DigitalE
I'd probably go for the warranty :)
DanManIt
I'd rather have the warranty, but I think the average consumer would rather have the game
