t0mbi
yeah, with the ps3 slim out..they should be including this for free to entice more people to buy xbox! but im not complaining..i have XBL gold..bought for AUD$51.95 so it will be a nice little extra
Rookas
I think it should be free, but microsoft is using it as one more reason to buy gold and I respect that. I'll be passing on both, I hate twitter and I only use FB on my phone when I'm bored at work!
Ji@nBing
I don't see a problem with it. More value for your gold membership. It's good to see more and more benefits other than just online gaming.
Yusuf M. Veteran Posted August 28, 2009 Veteran Share Posted August 28, 2009 Well that's a bit odd, don't you think? Both Facebook and Twitter are free services. Then again, making it available on Xbox Live took a fair bit of work. I guess I can understand the reason for requiring an Xbox Live Gold membership to access it. Richard Hammond
So basicaly what your saying is that they should be expected to put extra time and effort into implementing these things FOR FREE, on top of the work already done adding new features FOR FREE etc via system updates? It's not a birth right to have access to these things, if you don't want them, don't buy gold, stop whinging and go outside away from your computer. Simple. Sony does it for free and there are no tiers of online play everyone gets everything, they are even adding BBC Iplayer for free.

Rookas
whats the difference between going to the facebook website on a web browser on the 360, and this? Avatars. And more difficult typing. Sorry, misread that. Browser on the 360? Ain't one.
gigapixels Veteran Posted August 28, 2009 Veteran Share Posted August 28, 2009 This was completely expected to me... I don't see why they shouldn't or why it's a bad thing. They're not increasing the price of a Gold subscription are they? No, so you're not paying for these apps. They're adding bonuses to the Gold subscription, plain and simple. WelshBluebird
I know a lot of people have Gold anyway, but requiring a paid subscription to use a free service seems a little naughty... That would be like a phone OEM saying, you've got a facebook app on your phone, but you need to pay us to let you use it.This makes me sad. To be fair, you do kind of have to pay for facebook on your phone, cos you need to pay for the data use.

Lol, I can see that, but you're already doing that at home, through your bandwidth costs...
Kushan
Conversely, though, these applications presumably run through Microsoft's servers, not just a HTTP connection straight to facebook's. Kinda makes sense that its part of a gold subby, then.
carmatic
guys , arent you forgetting that when you use the normal facebook, you see ads... im thinking that this xbox360 facebook app will be totally ad free, thats why you have to pay to use it... The Teej
Uhhhhh.....You can't use that free app on your phone without paying a monthly subscription for a data plan. Sure the app is free, but the service and bandwidth isn't. That was a horrible analogy. ;) Not really, you can't use Facebook on your PC without an internet connection. What Microsoft is essentially telling you to do, if you want Facebook on your 360, is to pay for your internet connection, and *then* pay a monthly subscription fee. DrunknMunky Veteran Posted August 29, 2009 Veteran Share Posted August 29, 2009 You're not paying for anything, the price of XBL hasn't increased to incorporate any fees for Facebook.
DanManIt
I think Microsoft is doing this so that it gives extra benefits to having Gold. Especially since the PS3 version of Live is free

Sure the app is free, but the service and bandwidth isn't. That was a horrible analogy. ;) actually I really like his analogy he said OEM PHONE compNy not service provider so it would be like me owning a Nokia phone and giving Nokia A monthly fee to use facebook on their phone ontop of my phone bill which has a data plan fee so in this regard I understand where a lot of people are coming from when they complain about this. You paid for the 360 hardware and you paid for a Internet connection and I believe that sening msgs to friends on live through msn is free, buying marketplace content can be done with a silver account so why not facebook and Twitter? The only reasons I can think of are either they will be ad free like someone mentioned earlier or they cost money to make and ms doesn't want to make them free. At the end of the dAy it doesn't matter because ms can do whatever they ant with their platform I personally feel it is a mistake with the ps3 having a great integrated free web browser
