Battlefield 2 Patch 1.5

Recommended Posts

Damn, once again my stats are reduced to zero when I reinstall. I have contacted EA about this since the game first came out, hell since the original BF came out. Every time I reinstall I have to jump through hoops gettting my account back, and when it is retrieved it's zero'd :(

Same, I was quite far on my first bout with the game a few yesrs back and now nothing is unlocked at all and have to do it all again.

I have BF2 complete collection but only vanilla is installed and patched to 1.41. Can I just install the 1.5 patch and play? Or do I need to install the expansions and then apply the new patch? I am confused by what the other people were saying earlier in this thread :s .

You dont need to install anything extra to play 1.5 (besides 1.5) but if you want to play the expansion or boosters you will have to install them.

I sometimes have that problem when I join a server but it's never zero'd in BFHQ. Usually I just change server and it's fine.

woah. rather nostalgic game. i think its still the best battlefield game in the series by far.

it's a pity the local community died out, the only ranked servers i have access to now is like 400 ping away :(

still debating with myself whether it's worth reinstalling. heh.

seriously i haven't really touched any game with as much interest as with BF2.

I believe the stats reset if you don't play for a certain amount of time, though, don't quote me on that.

I did not play for well over a year, possibly actually more like two, and when I reinstalled it and logged on everything was still there for me.

same here. :)

Looks like they made C4 hurt you no matter what now. That'll stop people from parachuting into buildings, haha.

I just played for a few hours and had a good time. I don't remember the last game that gave me this much excitement. I have been playing the vanilla version of BF2 before the patch for a while but these new maps and the number of players is just great.

Ok so. I have a 2 or 3 year old install of this game from about 3 windows installs ago on my secondary harddrive. The game has always worked fine without needing to be reinstalled(only punkbuster needed reinstalled to play) but obviously the patch wont install cause windows doesn't know this install exists and thus is says "it can't find it". So would anyone know how i would go about fixing, i assume the missing registry entries, so i can install the patch? I'd rather not waste a needlessly long amount of time juggling 5 cd's and then redownloading yet another oversized patch before installing 1.5.

Sry for the late responce to this. (you've probably found a fix by now but here goes anyway for future ref)

in regedit head on over to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Electronic Arts\EA GAMES\Battlefield 2

(some have reported their game being found in the following location as well "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\DICE\Battlefield 2")

created a "InstallDir" string. and enter the games correct path for its value. eg.."c:\program files\ea games\battlefield 2".

that should do the trick.

Sweet, that works. Thanks.

After getting this installed i must say: I'm impressed they actually did the widescreen support right. And what i mean by right is that the fov appears to automatically adjust to fit your aspect ratio properly(atleast for me in 16:10 it does). Now i no longer have to use a 3rd party app to forcibly fix that. Now to go try out the booster content here shortly.

The non-vanilla maps are pretty fun. I haven't tried out the vehicles though. I'll have to remap my joystick for the jets but aside from that, I'm ready to fight on the battlefield. I remember doing Black Hawk drops with my buddies on Gulf of Oman. We'd all use the Special Forces load out and do all sorts of things at the enemy bases. Sometimes, we'd booby trap the jets with C4. Other times we'd engage in an all out firefight

Ahh man all this talk of the game is killing me as I cant get my hands on it this week. That and I have my old account but I fear I may have forgotten the password  Can't wait to get some games going with some of the guys here on Neowin. Was a Neowin Clan ever made?

Your account password is your gamespy id's password. Forgotten it? Easy to reset it! www.gamespyid.com :)

Enjoy!

Hey thanks for the info. When I log in using my email I am presented with multiple accounts that are linked to it DD31 the account that I mentioned being one of them, when I choose log in with that account it says "The nickname you've selected is not available. Either someone else is using it, or it contains characters that are not allowed. Please enter another name or select one of our suggestions." I am confused if it is linked with my email why is it saying that Nickname is not available :s

That's true, I get the same problem, when you created an account in BF2, it makes that name, but you can't do anything with it in the gamespy system.

If you logged into your gamespy account, that is your password, so try that and it should work in game. Caps sensitive, I believe. (nickname AND password)

Black : make sure your punkbuster is up to date and your DirectX is as well. Also check your drivers too. It's a bit finecky. Your screen res might be a problem, try changing it down first, then up...

Good luck mate!

I just re-installed PB a couple hours ago and double checked it just now and it's indeed up to date. As well as running in the processes list doing whatever it is PB actually does(aside from tripping on false positives). I'm pretty sure direct x should be up to date as well. Driver/resolution wise... i don't think that could be it, as i can get into single player and play with bots just fine. It's just that trying to join any online game results in a crash to the desktop with no message and no sign of it even happening in windows' error logs.

Indeed. It seems like alot of others are having trouble joining servers too, according to ea's forums. And of course, there's no sign of ea anywhere in sight to say anything about the problem.

I know it'll be a pain, but have you tried completely uninstalling (and deleting all traces of) BF2 and reinstalling?

I do know the issue you mean, but usually its related to corrupt game files. (Maybe we'll see a 1.51 patch shortly :p)

Side Note : The 1.50 patch removed the CD check. Finally.

i was experiencing those same symptoms prior to patch. a reinstall did it for me. only different was i installed in this order...

bf2 -> 1.41 -> Special Forces (which brought me back to earlier version) -> 1.41 (again) -> 1.5

it even fixed an voip error i was getting as well when I did it this way.

either way, i'd recommend a clean install. good luck man.

Meh. i guess i'll try the reinstall method since nothing else i've done has had any effect. Maybe i'll get lucky and it'll work. Though i just hate having to mess with 5 CD's.

Ironic, I installed this on my laptop without issue.

I got home from work, installed it on my desktop computer, and seconds after getting into a game, it locks up. A ctrl-alt-del works, then I land at the desktop, with BF2 closed.

Ho hum.

Okay problem solved!

Black, you might try this too.

In your BF2 folder, right click BF2.exe, click properties, click compatibility and tick "Disable visual themes" & "Disable desktop composition"

Click ok, then play game.

Fixed my problem! :D Works happily now, yay!
