Blackhearted
Eh. I finally got it working, atleast for now, with the reinstall. Though it's not as perfect as can be. Performance seems very lightly(but still noticeably) stuttery at times in the game now. Not really sure why, i'd expect a Radeon 4850 to plow through this old game without issue. But i guess i should just be satisfied i got it working online atleast.
Raa
Ah, you said Radeon - Case closed. Smooth as silk on my nVidia's. :) Glad you got it working, enjoy mate!
trag3dy
So I got this and I'm trying to set up a COOP server for me and a friend to play on, but I have no idea how to go about doing this. Can anyone give me some pointers on how to go about setting one up? I'm using the BF2 Server Launcher, and I think I should have it all set up but it's obviously not working. The things that have me most confused is what ip should I be using for the ServerIP and the InterfaceIP? I don't see an option to make the game COOP either. Can I do this through creating a local game, in the actual game and not using the server launcher, too? Would it be easier? Oh, I'm on Vista 64 bit too, btw. Raa
Yes, if you make a single player game, it actually spawns a multiplayer game that's connectable to from your local pc! (And has bots!) Co-op, I can't remember, there was a mod I used to use for that, It's been a while now.

trag3dy
COOP? I don't understand what you mean? Do you mean as in you and a few friends playing against bots? Yes. Exactly that. Right now I don't have much interest playing on real hosted servers as I suck so I figure I'll test the waters with bots and a friend or 2. In any case, I see my server in the game list now but I can't connect to it. Not sure what I've got wrong now. Edit: I also figured out where to set the co-op map settings. Now I just need to figure out how to connect to it. Sorry dude won't be much help as it's so long that I have not played the game that I have forgotten. I thought you were trying to do some COOP and attempting to find any kind of campaign or storyline  which you were not cos there isn't one :p Best of luck though :)

I should have made it more clear. I've played other Battlefield games so I (mostly) know how they work. I just don't know how to set up a server. Edit: When trying to connect my server shows in the list, but I get this error: You have failed to connect. Please check your network connection(s) and try again. ramsy66
New patch is awesome, haven't played this game properly in years. However I'm remembering why I stopped (bunny hoppers and grenade spammers mostly). However playing this after playing some modern console titles... well this is a **** load better in alot of aspects than many new games out today on the consoles. Why on earth can an average computer run a 64 player game on a huge battlefield smoothly and without hitches, when a "next-gen" console can't handle a 5v5 match in a tiny battlefield. I'm looking at you, Gears of War 2. Just shows how far ahead the PC was, unfortunately now all it seems to get are console ports.
Blackhearted
After a couple days of trying this new patch i must say... it has made the game worse. That "tweak" to hit detection they did has made it nearly impossible to hit anything. Even the most accurate of weapons such as, for example, a zoomed in sniper rifle wont do any damage on a direct hit about 80% of the time. Even on stationary targets i'm getting shot, after shot, after shot that should be a hit called as a miss when there's no way in the depths of hell it could have missed. and it's compeltely irregardless of ping too, i can ping 15 to a server and still have this crap. Yeah I've noticed this too. Shot at some guy laying there completely still with the L96, you could see the bullet hit him in the head and the character flinched so I know the bullet hit him, but no hit indicator and he just wandered off. Valerus
Well I installed everything and it's working perfectly. I can't say the same about my skill in this game, I'm terrible! I used to ROCK 1942, DC, Vietnam and I do really really well in 1943 but I suck at BF2!

macrosslover
You and me both, brother! I love DaemonTools and emulation images ;)And for a mostly online game, what was the point!? :| that's the one thing i do give Activision credit for. COD at least recently with MW and WAW has done good with not requiring the cd when the game first came out. EA has always been slowest to do that. Same with EPIC in that they don't require the CD in the drive.

Master Shake
I got it running on win7 x64 but when I am getting graphix corruption with my catalyst controls turned to use application settings, like you're supposed to. When I set them to override the app's settings it mostly fixes the probalem except for some weird shadows or dark spots. I read that if you do this though AA does not work at all, it has to be set from inside of bf2 or it doesn't work... that sucks because I have enough power now to max all quality and aa/af settings. I've tried compatiblity modes and everything. Anyone have any luck on win7 x64? I'm using the latest ati drivers along with all the latest drivers for everything else. trag3dy
Taking a stab in the dark here but you're probably getting booted because your Punk Buster isn't updated properly. Try doing all that is listed on this site: http://www.halleynet.co.uk/wordpress/2008/...uty-4-on-vista/ It's for COD4 but the same process should work for BF2, too. Just change everything that mentions COD4 to BF2.
