Internet Problem w/ OSX

Recommended Posts

I have a very very odd problem with my internet.

I have a 2 year old MBP, and my family have a 2 year old iMac and we both have the same problem.

What happens is we get disconnected from the internet randomly, I load up Network Diagnostics and the ISP, Internet & Server bubbles are RED.

I perform the test and reconnect then everything is fine.

It does this I'd say at least 2-3 times every 30 minutes.

I thought it was the router that was causing the problem ,so returned it to the store and exchanged it for a new one as it was only 6 months old.

However, even with the new router, the same problem happened.

The odd thing is when I load XP up on my MBP, I never get disconnected from the internet. (As I finish this sentence I have been disconnected). No problems what so ever in Windows I am always connect to the internet, however in OSX, it's a different story.

It's been happening for the last 3 weeks now and I am wondering if anyone else has had this problem or knows what is actually wrong.

Many Thanks

Scazza

By chance are you connecting these two computers wirelessly to the router and if so, what security are you using? I've seen this issue with WPA-TKIP+AES. Let me know. Cheers.

Both are connected wirelessly and we have always used the same Encryption Type Details since we have had the router and had no problems.

Security Mode > WPA/WPA2 - Personal (PSK)

Authentication > WPA-PSK+WPA2-PSK

Encryption Type > TKIP+AES

Thanks

Try removing the encryption for testing and see if it drops with the encryption off. I have seen the oddest things with WiFi connections using WPA2 in my own home this normally tests it out.

This is certainly is a good test, if it works from there, try WPA-PSK TKIP alone and report results.

Thanks for the replies and help guys.

I have changed from WPA2 and will return with some results after a couple of days!
