AltecXP
I have tried holding 6 and 4 and tried editing the boot.plist, neither will boot teh 64bit kernel. I have a unibody MacBook, and I have the required "EFI64". Any ideas?

Any ideas? I thought it was completely disabled for macbooks except for the top shelf MBP's?
AltecXP
If so that's just stupid, why tout an OS as 64bit and disable it on machines that can run it just fine? Apple is REALLY starting to **** me off lately.

Open your wallet and upgrade! It's that easy.... Apple p*ss me off too. Funny thing is, Win7 x64 works like a charm in bootcamp.
The_Decryptor Veteran Posted August 29, 2009 Veteran Share Posted August 29, 2009 The OS is 64bit, just one part isn't running as 64bit by default.
Elliott
Here's a compatibility list, just to show that the plastic MacBooks aren't compatible with the 64-bit kernel. Like Decryptor said, it really doesn't make a difference. Benchmarks have been run, and there's no performance gain from running under a 64-bit kernel. My system is capable of running the 64-bit kernel and I don't even bother because there's no point. All I'd be doing is locking myself out of certain hardware and software that isn't compatible yet. .Neo
Why are people so obsessed by this? Currently there isn't any reason why you would need it.
