Whenever you have both a game and the expansion for it, but have played neither for it, what do you do?

Do you install just the original game or do you install both the game and expansion right away?

I've been 50/50 on this issue in the past, with me recently beating the original first and then installing the expansion

I always install the original game and any expansions/mini-expansions it has. That way, I can easily go back to the original for old time's sake. Of course, I only do that when I have the hard drive space for it. Come to think of it, I always had the space required to install my games.

Also, most games require the original to be installed anyway.

Would be dumb not to, unless it actually changes the original game in a significant way. Most expansions just adds another campaign, faction or something along those lines - Vanilla campaigns and features are usually still available more separably.

This is of course based on the games I play and their respective expansions.

Depends what kind of game, if its an open world game like oblivion/fallout 3 where it adds new areas that you can visit at any time then i would put them all on to begin with.

If its a seperate expansion that you can play seperate to the game then i wait till i finish the original game.
