DrunknMunky Veteran Posted September 2, 2009 Veteran Share Posted September 2, 2009 News by Robert Purchese Sales of the Xbox 360 Elite rose 43 per cent during the bank holiday weekend in the UK. Microsoft cut the price of the upper-tier bundle to ?199.99 (a saving of ?50) last Friday, ahead of the PS3 Slim launch today - a coincidental occurrence, MS assured us. "Sales of Xbox 360 are up 43 per cent," data detective GfK Chart-Track told GamesIndustry.biz. "Essentially, looking at the price, obviously it's the Elite that's done the business with those sales." Gfk Chart-Track noted this as a "good start" for Microsoft ahead of the upcoming console battle. "It's quite a big deal for Sony next week," added the spokesperson. http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/elite-sa...surge-across-uk
+Audioboxer Subscriber² Posted September 2, 2009 Subscriber² Share Posted September 2, 2009 Nice, the elite is a good deal at that price, I'd jump on it if they did the American wireless adapter included deal so I can start using live again. Sony were stupid not to let retailers sell the PS3 over the bank holiday weekend when they had it, but that's passed now.

Yeah, it's definitely a dumb move to make that Canada only and not worldwide. When that Halo 3 bundle leaked, I though MS had finally come to their senses, but apparently they haven't. It's good to see the Elite spark some sales. It will be interesting to see how the PS3 does...

Raktael
After much persuasion, my mate actually finally ordered an X-Box 360. For his ?299.99 from play.com he managed to get the following: X-Box 360 Elite Console 12 Months X-Box Live 4200 MS Points Wireless Network adapter Halo 3 Gears of War 2 All bundled in, not bad for the extra ?100 I think, so if you don't have one, and are looking for a deal, if play.com are still doing this, go now and forever rejoice!! what
I'm seriously tempted to upgrade to an Elite but I really don't have the money for it right now. Maybe I'll get it as a Christmas present to myself or something.

.KICK
Good news and its a nice price. I wonder what Microsoft return is from selling the hardware although I know they make more from selling software iirc.
DrunknMunky Veteran Posted September 3, 2009 Author Veteran Share Posted September 3, 2009 No doubt they are making a pretty penny on it either way. Along with software like you said, the markup on accessories will be huge profit too.
+Mystic MVC Posted September 3, 2009 MVC Share Posted September 3, 2009 No doubt they are making a pretty penny on it either way. Along with software like you said, the markup on accessories will be huge profit too. They can't be making that much on a console considering the Wii is only making $50 per each sold. Yeah the 360 is selling at a profit but beating the Wii will be impossible. Like you said though, with any console, accessory markup makes up a huge part of the initial loss. DrCheese
Considering they murdered the pro, this isn't surprising.

Andrew Lyle Global Moderator Posted September 3, 2009 Global Moderator Share Posted September 3, 2009 That is really good. I wish I waited for the price drop to get the elite instead of 60GB pro.. But my bundle was only $269 CDN.. very very very good price if you ask me.
MillionVoltss
My 360 was temperamental earlier and i might need to pick up a new console. Id like a 120Gb and need to use VGA connection with my monitor, Do the new elite's have the ability if there HDMI, to connect with VGA and also how common are the Jasper mother boards ? All you need is the VGA HD cable, it connects on the port next to the HDMI one. Jaspers are probably widespread, they've been out for a while now. George P Global Moderator Posted September 9, 2009 Global Moderator Share Posted September 9, 2009 I'd like the bigger hdd as well, I'd hope MS would release a bigger drive so the 120GB would see a price cut. But I'll probably just have to give in and pay the current price at this point. Good thing i'm in no real rush.
