Circaflex
I think you guys are missing my point, i understand how subscriptions work. My problem is even after i told the gentleman i would be using prepaid cards because i get a discount at work he continued to try and get me to buy from them or keep my account info in live, that to me is just shady and wrong. sorry if im "crying" too much. They're salespeople, it's their job to try and keep you subscribing, and in fact, they probably make a fair amount of their wages off of commission from doing that. It's just something you have to deal with if you've subscribed to something. -Spenser
HawkMan
OF course he did. They want you to stay with a credit card, it makes it easier for you to buy stuff on live. it's more convenient and you'll be paying regularly without skipping months. AND they get more money from you paying directly to them rather than pre-paid cards where a significant portion goes to the retailer.

Andrew Lyle Global Moderator Posted September 2, 2009 Global Moderator Share Posted September 2, 2009 My work (totally unrelated to technology) does the same tactics to keep customers. They dont make customers wait that long on the phone, but I feel as if you've exaggerated a little bit on the time. My work keeps asking customers why they want to cancel then put them into a processing, where another department calls you back to confirm the cancellation offering you all types of discounts. Your reasoning for never signing up again is a little foolish, customer service is bad wherever you go these days, they need to keep customers. Retention is companies biggest goals these days. Subject Delta
Agreed, all companies do it. Its just one of those things you have to put up with, sales people are pretty aggressive nowadays because of the commissions they are put on. ImaITGuy
Understand your frustration... those are often the pitfalls of dealing with people that are handed a script to read and they physically sit in India or some other lower wage country. You can in fact cancel or change how your subscription is billed on xbox.com - I just recently turned off my auto renewal as I always pay for the card from buy.com or bestbuy Check out majornelson.com and it was a added feature of the last update. Dont give up on Live! as a result of the poor customer service - that part is over - its in your hands now man... buy the cards and keep playing. rajputwarrior
customer service is the reason i cancelled my live subscriptions. I had a three month battle with those idiots, only way i got it resolved was by emailing the vice president of customer service at microsoft... retarded that i had to result to that. but i feel your pain. now i wait for xmas to come around and pick up a ps3 and play online for free! No offence, but it's kinda stupid to quit playing games on Live just because you had customer service issues, playing Xbox 360 games online > a few customer service issues, it's not like you have to deal with them on a common basis. That's like not shopping at a store because the cashier was bad, it's bound to happen once in a while, but the good outweighs the bad for such a trivial thing. That's like not shopping at a store because the cashier was bad, it's bound to happen once in a while, but the good outweighs the bad for such a trivial thing. The reason i had the battle with them is because during the whole xmas outages i tried to recover my gamer tag (this was before anyone really knew the deal with the outages, i did this when all of this started to happen). It toke me three months before i was able to recover my gamertag, meanwhile they were next to no help and would refund any of the time i had just lost because of their outages. The biggest ****off about this was that i was unable to access any of my save games on my own xbox, which sucked hard. It was basically a useless xbox to me because i really didn't want to redo about two years worth of work. The only thing they were offering me was a free game, which no one in hell was a fair resolution, i just wanted the three months in return that i had lost. The only way i got that was by emailing the VP of customer service, someone from their side finally called me (this was the first time they had actually called me after telling me they would over and over and over again in regards to my situation). We were finally able to resolve the issue but that was after all the BSi went through.

Well to be honest, when I get crappy customer service from one place, I don't go back. A sales rep being overly pushy, or giving you the run a round to make it difficult to cancel a service is just as bad.

bryonhowley
quit acting like a mod. This is the Microsoft Console forum which XBOX LIVE falls under. Tried to do that, there isnt a way of taking off auto renew or removing the card. Only way to cancel that portion is to add a prepaid card into it from what i could tell. You did not try to hard because you most defiantly can cancel auto renew from there. I did it just Monday took maybe 1 minute total.

Yusuf M. Veteran Posted September 2, 2009 Veteran Share Posted September 2, 2009 It's a shame you were put through that. If that happened to me, I would have e-mailed Microsoft about it. People shouldn't have to wait more than 30 minutes to cancel a subscription. And customer service reps need to learn that "I want to cancel." means "I want to cancel." Unfortunately, it happens with Internet service providers, phone companies, you name it. Anyway, whether or not you want to subscribe to LIVE is your choice. I'm not saying you should or shouldn't. I just feel that people should respect other people's choices no matter how "bad" of a choice they think it is.
S00N3R FR3AK
Its how all sub type systems work. In fact its the best way to get things done with sprint. Have a problem? call cancelation department. They are doing their job in trying to keep you on th emonthly sub for the exact reason of them wanting you to get something you forget. This is buisness and everyone is out to make money. Ive always have had good service and will continue to keep them as my main console. I would expect this form any company and in fact EVE was the worst in the since I couldn't get the page and we had to have the credit card block it. If their just persiant then well its their job. neoadorable
If i lose my light bill and have to call them to make a payment, not only does it take forty minutes but they then have the nerve to charge me 2.50 in CONVENIENCE FEES. that makes your description of MS in this case want me to send them a thank-you card. even so, this doesn't mean anyone who puts you on hold is evil. it's annoying, yes, but not the end of the world. the month to month Live is 8 bucks, don't make it seem like they're raking your bank account clean. worse case you call your financial institution and file a complaint, telling them you don't want the service but the provider is refusing to cancel. You're just overreacting, but we've all done that.
