And The PS3 Box Redesigns Commence

With a new PS3 comes a new PS3 logo, and with a new PS3 logo comes a new PS3 box. And a new PS3 box means all the cover art we've seen for upcoming games needs to be changed.

First off the blocks is Uncharted 2. Old art on the left, new one on the right. Note the art itself hasn't changed, and probably won't for other games in this situation. Still, the new box is definitely an improvement. Getting rid of that "PLAYSTATION 3" spine down the side certainly gives the art some room to breathe.

I like the old version a bit better, mainly because I liked the old logo (particularly it's font) better. Eh, still, the new one is nice enough, I suppose.

I think if they made the top bar on the new art a lot smaller, I would like it a lot more.

Yeah I agree. I like it but that bar smaller would be better. Too big.

the inside of the box needs to change, the little clips holding the books in place need to be on the opposite side. otherwise the booklets slide out when you're closing the box into the fold and it just damages the books.

I can understand that the art changes. But why is the age rating different? or is RP "rating pending"?

It changed because "RP" is "Rating Pending". So now its officially rated T for Teen. Which I really don't think anyone cares about the ratings when buying games in here. :)

Both seem fine to me but I keep thinking Sony is trying to copy Microsoft's bar on the 360 by placing it on top. I personally don't mind at all but it leads me to that feeling.

Sony had the bar the way it is WAY before Microsoft did with the PlayStation 2.

Oh... snap.

You're right.

I completely forgot about PlayStation 2.

I never owned one which is probably why it slipped my mind.

  • 5 months later...

Had to. Preference? Either, it's the gameplay that counts.

But this topic was about the box designs. If people wanted to talk about the gameplay they would've done so in gameplay threads. If you have a problem with people discussing box designs then don't read the thread, pretty simple.

I sent my input, like everyone else (including you). My opinion was that both designes looked equally appealing but it didn't matter... What will change with the new box? The game inside is still the same and it wont convince people to buy it just because the playstation logo moved...

Still too much crap for my liking. I would much prefer something like this...

The PS brand is known worldwide. You say PS3 everyone knows what you mean. Free up the space for game art, and only have the essential stuff on the front (ratings and such).

I'm glad you bumped this and kinda weirded out.

20 mins ago I realised my FIFA 10 boxart has this "new" design whereas games newer than FIFA 10 that I own don't :P

odd.

That would look too similar to the Wii box art.
