+Byt Subscriber¹ Posted September 5, 2009 Subscriber¹ Share Posted September 5, 2009 Hi Guys I'm about to install Grid and use my 360 controller to play it. Is it best for me to install it on my C or second hard drive D? Would the game run better installed on a different hdd than my windows install? Thanks! IMO I just install games on your second hard drive D since you can keep the important stuff like Windows on your C drive. I like to keep the C drive for the OS and the important programs. acnpt
Install Games + Programs onto C:\, then have downloads/documents/music etc on D:\. Then you can easily format and re-install windows.
shihchiun
Only if drive D is faster than drive C
McCordRm
I use a smallish hard drive for my operating system (74g Raptor) and install programs that require multiple-location file drops to that drive as well. Any programs/games that install only to it's own directory I will put on my D:. How do you tell the difference? If you can take a program's install folder, copy it to another machine directly, and the program runs just fine... you're good to go. I do this to keep from having to re-install EVERYTHING when I do a wipe. I like to keep my system clean. :)
HeartsOfWar
Chances are greater that you'll experience a bottleneck in performance due to the GPU, CPU, or memory before the HDD. Of course this isn't always the case, but unless if your secondary drive is that much faster, why isn't it your primary? Like most people, my primary is usually the fastest drive I have, and limited to Windows and applications. All my data is stored on the secondary drive so I can format very quickly without any risk of losing any data.
Xilo
I usually keep all my games on a 2nd drive and backup the registry entries for them. That way, I don't have to deal with hella long install times and going through massive updates whenever I need to reformat. This is especially true if you have steam. Fred 69
Depends if you care about losing them in a format or if your other drive is faster - but if it's faster, why isn't your OS on it?
