the evn show
Wrong forum. Is this an American thing? Tethering an MMS have been working on my iPhone since the 3.0 betas turned up on ADC. I knew that tethering with AT&T was busted but didn't think they'd be blocking picture/video messages.
Hurmoth
...didn't think they'd be blocking picture/video messages. Yes, AT&T sucks. They didn't allow either of those features and they still aren't allowing tethering at this point. As for MMS, it still isn't available. You may be able to receive MMS, but you can't send. I have the iPhone 3G(s) and there's no new options to allow sending MMS yet.
SimplySchizo
MMS is available for just about the majority of users with a text msging plan. some have had it active for months now. make sure youre on at&t carrier version 5.0. that will make the camera icon/button available in msging app. most are still on 4.0 i got my wifes iphone MMS working last night. she has the 200text plan. i on other hand dont. so ill have to wait till the 25th. HERE's the carrier update. you dont have to restore, or even sync. itunes simply updates your settings. Edited September 7, 2009 by

Phantom Helix
Yes, it is evn, AT&T disabled tethering and MMS because they needed to upgrade the network. They had barely rolled out 3G when they made the deal with apple to have the iPhone exclusively and apple told them they had to improve coverage in order to keep the iPhone so they have spent something like 40 billion dollars upgrading and increasing 3G coverage and network bandwidth capacity. During the WWDC 09 keynote when the guy starts talking about MMS and AT&T the entire crowd chuckled because they already knew AT&T had a bad rep as service provider in USA and this was just another point to show AT&T is a joke

I want to compare it to mine and see what I'm missing.

Your original post didn't say anything about "hacking" the phone. Which that pretty much is what you're doing. Not exactly, but it is altering what Apple and AT&T have officially released. Technically speaking then, one could say that the iPhone is open to other carriers. But that isn't exactly true because it isn't opened to other carriers. As for MMS being available on my phone, without hacking, it is not. I just verified that I have the latest updates and this is the screen I get: There's no camera to the left of the text field. Andrew Lyle Global Moderator Posted September 7, 2009 Global Moderator Share Posted September 7, 2009 You must be talking about AT&T... they are the only ones now getting MMS.. Not till september 25 (Y) https://www.neowin.net/news/main/09/09/03/a...on-september-
DrDrrae
I've had MMS enabled on AT&T ever since I got my 3GS but that was obviously a mistake by AT&T. They never turned it off on their side. Once I enabled the "hack" it worked just like it was supposed to. Orien
Does iTunes 8.2.1 allow you to update the ipcc file directly?
DrDrrae
You need to run a command to enable iTunes to update the phone's carrier profile. Windows: "%ProgramFiles%\iTunes\iTunes.exe" /setPrefInt carrier-testing 1 OSX: defaults write com.apple.iTunes carrier-testing -bool TRUE But it's not going to work unless AT&T enables MMS on the server side.
