Apple a joke lately?

So we all dream up this great iPhone because of rumors, and they introduce something called a 3GS. Which did turn out nice, but wasn't what we all expected. Now the new iPod Touch is here, and I can't figure out what to even call the thing. Is it a 2GS (second generation speed), or are they seriously calling it a 3G (third generation)? I see the 2G as a nice iPod Touch, some see it as a minor update, but it came with bluetooth, better performance, slimmer design, etc. But this new iPod Touch is the biggest rip-off yet. First of all, they changed the price if you didn't notice. The new iPod Touch starts at $299.00, that comes with the better performance. The iPhone 3GS should have similar hardware to the new iPod Touch, just like the iPod Touch 2G is like the 3G's hardware and the original iPhone has hardware similar to the iPod Touch 1G. So to get the new iPod Touch, you have to pay more money than you used to. The new iPod Touch doesn't even come with a camera, let alone FM Radio! I don't even know what to call the new iPod Touch, because according to it's unique specs compared to the 2G iPod Touch, it has the same battery life and other related specs. This so-called better performance can only be found said in the description which says it has better performance. The iPod Nano is the best product update I've seen yet, it includes a better look and FM Radio and camera. It's cheaper and doesn't have a touchscreen, wow, who made that decision? I also heard they took the camera out of the plan for the iPod Touch because it wasn't working, that's what I heard. This is messed up, but all I know is, Steve Jobs better be announcing an iPhone this June that is a major update (not like 3GS where it's barely different from 3G) and the iPod Touch is in for a major update because of it.

The iPod Touch 2G starts at $229.00, now is $199.00, the new iPod Touch starts at $299.00. Another 70 dollars to take out for a purchase of it.

The iPod touch had two years without any serious competition before the Zune HD gets released. And overall it seems like the iPod-line is still selling very well, so apparently there is no need yet for a major update.

Things like an OLED screen and such would have been nice but lets face it, the average consumer isn't going to cary too much, if at all, about that. The iPod has been doing just fine without a FM-tuner for years now.

That said the iPod nano did get a nice update with camera and FM-tuner.

They could have updated the iPod Touch with a camera.. that would of made people happy.

The shuffle, IMO can stay the same.. that isn't as popular, mostly used for joggers and athletes to listen to on the go.

The more serious people who want a device like the 3GS without the phone need a larger storage space for music and videos.. the 64GB models is nice, but still missing features!!

Really, really, really disappointed with Apple's announcements today.

Yeah I was a bit disappointed too, but seeing Steve Jobs alive made me a little happier.

there isnt much they can do, if they want to keep the size.

the only things i can come up with would be small improvements like a flash for the camera, all the rest of things i want to see are software things that open the phone more.

I wasn't disappointed at all, they improved on some existing products and released some new software. They can't make everybody happy and because they didn't do the things you wanted them to hardly makes them a joke. I'm not a fanboy for the record, but I think there's hateboys who will hate a product or company because it's not the same as another company or because in their eyes they didn't perform well. Get over it, they're products with alternatives on the market.

Yeah I agree, this update was pretty much suck... I'm starting to give less of a **** about Apple now, they've really started to bore me.

Good to see Steve back, he's pretty much the only thing I like about Apple at the moment! >:3

I've never seen a Zune in my entire life. T_T

Apple has become more arrogant and obnoxious than Sony ever dreamed of being.

Absolutly , This slide pritty much summed the whole thing up for me . Apple is hellbent on re-branding old tech as their own .

PDA =/= Netbook

Well, to be fair, the last update for the Zunes was basically a bigger hardrive and a new paint job, kind of like what Apple did with the ipod touch. Both are lame updates though.

I'm not a fanboy of Microsoft or Apple, I like both of their stuff. I use Windows 7 on my 24" iMac, own an iPod Touch 2G, and already preordered a Zune HD. I never thought the Zunes were better over the refreshed iPod line. I think a paint job is good though, much better than the so-called 'better performance' and the bigger sizes that don't benefit me.

I know other people need a bigger-sized iPod and like the iPod Touch and like the new update, but it really was a minor issue compared to better battery life or a new look that makes it look like an iPhone or maybe some iPhone features like GPS. I think this update was a ripoff, like how do we know if it has better performance? It could be a bigger storage capacity, but that might be the only thing different. :(

After reading your wall of text I still can't figure out what you're angry about...

You start off by kind of blaming Apple for not keeping up with all the rumors... right. Then you don't know what to call the new iPod Touch BECAUSE it doesn't come with an FM radio and a camera? Well, let me help you right there: It's still called iPod Touch.

Then you continue blaming Apple for rumors... bla bla.. no camera bla bla bla.. that's what you heard... OK, we believe you.

The Touch is segmented in two varieties now: low end 8GB and higher end 32/64GB. The models have been refreshed, what's so difficult to understand? You don't have to upgrade yours you know, what $70 are you talking about?

I think it was GOOD news yesterday.

The iPod Touch got better (the hardware of the 3GS), and the iPod Nano got a Radio and Camera. That doesn't matter too much to me, as I've never purchased an iPod or felt any desire to. But for those buying a new iPod, it means cooler stuff for them.

I have an iPhone 3GS. There are some amazing games and applications for it. When playing some of the nicer 3D games, I know the hardware is capable of so much more. Current games and apps don't take advantage of the 3GS hardware. Why would they since all the other iPhones and iPod Touches have "weaker" hardware? Anyone that made something that required 3GS would limit the number of potential buyers.

Well, with the iPod Touch getting 3GS hardware, now maybe some BETTER games will come out that only work on the 3GS hardware since the 3GS-hardware market will now increase some more. Seriously, 3GS has a crazy fast CPU, a PowerVR 3D GPU, and 256 Megs RAM (same as the PS3). The new iPod Touch (with the 3GS hardware) means better software for people with an iPhone.

Also, the iPhone OS 3.1 came out, and iTunes 9 with a new iPhone/iPod Touch App manager.

They refreshed their entire iPod line, released new iTunes and released OS 3.1 and people are acting like they haven't done anything. There were no "groundbreaking" innovations but those type of products are released every few years, not at every Apple event

Im pretty sure they were refering to the IPod with that one but PDA PDAPhone =/= Netbook

Its a retarded comparison ;)

It's not a retarded comparison in my opinion. Most of the netbooks I've tried are no easier to type on and certainly not easier to tap around on than an iPhone or iPod, and the power in the latest iPod touches and the iPhone 3GS is certainly enough to browse the web and use fairly powerful applications.

I enjoy using my iPhone more than I enjoy using a Dell Mini 9.

Not really, since the iPod Touch and iPhone are closer true handheld computers than PDAs ever were, so the comparison holds up. Netbooks suck at everything except web surfing, most over rated category of computing device in years.
