Yahtzee Reviews Wolfenstein

I disagree, I have enjoyed the single player campaign so far. Nothing ground breaking by any means, but I wouldn't call it a POS

I agree. I think everyone now expects some groundbreaking stuff from every single game. I enjoyed the couple of hours I spent on it. Gamer expectations are extremely high nowadays.

not the game of the year of course, but a very good one with a "old school" feeling that I've enjoyed very much, far far from a POS  , wanna play a POS? try darkest of days :x

Yeah because we demand too much, such as a quality games - How dare we

No, some gamers just seem to expect every game made to redefine their genre and break new ground. Wolfenstein doesn't do that, it is just a shooter (although the veil is rather unusual)

And some gamers want a fun, solid game which this new Wolfenstein isn't - It's a pathetic run-of-the-mill shooter that will keep a handful of gamers occupied for a few days.

wtf is with people playing this "gamers expect every game to be ground breaking" card? I'm nothing like that, I play plenty of mediocre/average games.

I'm a wolfenstein vet and played it for god knows how many years now. I've waited since 2003 for this game and when it finally releases, it's nothing like the old games which made it great and kept me up all night/weekend playing MP.

I suspect the people actually praising the title have never even played the old Wolf games. You guys haven't got a clue.

hehe Munky Munky  a vet? you're not even 25, you were a baby when wolfstein 3D was a novelty and I bought a floppy to copy the shareware version ;)

nahh it's ok, you're more of a gamer than me (Y)

I never claimed to play it when it came out, but I could whoop your ass at the game, I know that much ;)

I've said this before, but Wolf consumed my life for years (gaming wise). Exactly the same way that it does to addicts of WoW. I doubt there is (m)any around here who know that game better than myself.

Well you'd be wrong, I absolutely loved RTCW, I have played it through countless times. Cant comment on the multiplayer as I don't really play games online, but I loved the SP campaign in RTCW. Admittedly the storyline in the new game is a little disjointed, but I didn't think it was an overly bad game.

Well I am not going to praise this new Wolfenstein, but I do not think it was awful by any means. I do however think it was an extreme disappointment as I was expecting it to be as good as RTCW was at it's time, meaning I wanted the impact RTCW had on me back then with this new one now, and that definitely did not happen. Did not even come close to that.

With that said though, I thought it was a fairly solid FPS. By no means the greatest, not even close, and I was definitely disappointed by the fact it did nothing new and borrowed heavuly from other games a bit to much, but there are plenty I can think of that were worse. Id say it is right about middle of the road. Where it lost my interest was the whole fake open world approach, I would have much preffered just a linear put me in the situation with a cut scene game rather than having to traverse the same town just to get to missions.

I've passed on this because if the average reviews and think it's a shame they didn't stick with return to castle wolf theme, which was a great update of wolf3d.

Rembers wolf3d on a boot disk :o) and the Christmas theme which was later released.

Yep i'd agree, and the fact you had to search for gold and so on to get your weapon upgrades is annoying, too much time wasted searching for hidden items is annoying. I prefer linearity in shooters, but I enjoyed most of the other gameplay features

Well, I missed a lot of posts but specifically to DrunknMunky, I was playing Castle Wolfenstein on an Apple ][e when even fake 3d was just a pipe dream. ;)
