Yahtzee Reviews Wolfenstein

Recommended Posts

Cant comment on the multiplayer as I don't really play games online,

which is the whole point of people arguing that the new wolfenstein sucks... RTCW had a really solid multiplayer component, it kept people coming back for more long after they've finished the SP campaign... i'd say that it was the best WW2 multiplayer of its time, the netcode was good, the different classes were really balanced, the level design was superb... and having Enemy Territory didnt hurt either

Well, I missed a lot of posts but specifically to DrunknMunky, I was playing Castle Wolfenstein on an Apple ][e when even fake 3d was just a pipe dream. ;)

I too feel like an old bugger when people here are referring RTCW as the "old Wolf" (and I'm not even 30 yet...)

Wolfenstein, Wolf3D, Spear of Destiny, RTCW seen them all, but as I watched my friend play the newest installment I think I'll pass this one.

This guy knows what he's talking about

That's flawed thinking because too many people just assume that the MP element is the only part that matters to gamers nowadays
MK vs DC is the best MK since MK II.

Flawed thinking? What country are you from again?

If you've never played the MP then you don't even have anything to back yourself up on.

thats too many people, but its enough people to matter nonetheless... who are you gonna play with after you finished the single player?

From what I'm getting hre people seem more upset with a mediocre game using a title with history. Maybe the game should've not been in the Wolfenstein history (it's generic enough not to). I guess it's a valid point but I don't think about the other Wolfensteins when playing this game. Just another average FPS.

Oh, and I hope no one was expecting a Wolfenstein refund.

Looks Like You Won't Be Getting A Refund On That Copy Of Wolfenstein

By Michael McWhertor, 7:20 PM on Fri Sep 11 2009

Prior to the release of Wolfenstein, Raven Software designer Manveer Heir promised a full refund to anyone who bought the game if it outsold this year's Madden. It did not. It didn't come close, actually, according to NPD Group estimates.

According to a report from GameSpot, the Activision game sold just 106,000 copies across the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC. Madden sold 1.9 million. Sure, combined Wolfenstein looks like it may have outsold the Wii version of this year's Madden, but I don't think that counts.

Not terribly good news for Activision, id or Raven, but news that helps shed a bit more light on those recent layoffs at the developer.

Here's to hoping that Singularity, Raven Software's other first-person shooter, fares better with its new release date.

Aww I wanted my free copy :(

On a related note Madden on the Wii sold absolutely terribly, if there was one 3rd party title I thought would do good it would be that

No, some gamers just seem to expect every game made to redefine their genre and break new ground. Wolfenstein doesn't do that, it is just a shooter (although the veil is rather unusual)

Read through the thread, kind of agree with this, but it doesn't fly so well nowadays.

There's a ridiculous amount of games coming out on a yearly basis, FPS is the most crowded market, mediocre games just sink like tanks now in the FPS category.

We've got so much choice, the majority of gamers will wait on/pick the gems, and the titles you might of bought and played in the past that would be condoned as "average" are now seen as flops as people have less time and more games to chew through.

Nothing wrong with having high standards but there is times I look at the way some people refuse to play just about anything and think to myself, let go of your stubbornness/ignore the reviews and just give the game a shot without any pre-play assumptions.

Other times, well, games are just a POS.

^ This is one of those times. I played the game before the reviews came flooding in, so nothing made my mind up for me except my own gaming experience.

Had they stuck to the formula of past Wolf games then at least the MP would have been a redeeming factor. Sadly we all know that's not the case and they had to **** it up and clone CoD, really badly. It's not even like it's a patch on CoD either in the end. Just a mess of different games. This is definitely a case of where Yahtzee has the ok to rip the game to shreds, no doubt about it.

funny review for sure. the single player was OK, sometimes good. it had quite a few nice touches and was interesting enough, and did what I'd expect from a Wolfenstein single player campaign - shoot it out with a bunch of deranged nazis hellbent on the occult. the multiplayer was horrible, no question in my mind. Twenty minutes with it was enough, it was a disaster both in terms of design and technical execution. it didn't even look like the single player game. i mean reduced environmental damage is fine, but it was like something they did three-four years before deciding to do the SP.

I thought Wolfenstein was pretty boring. Mediocre, run of the mill. I agree with Yahtzee's review, which was one of his best reviews to date, very entertaining.

It's sad when the review was more fun to watch than the game was to play.
