My 360 'Zephyr' just broke

Recommended Posts

God dammit of all the luck in the universe.. Just when I was about to get ODST my 360 RRODs on me, I just booted this thing up and started playing Halo 3 on Heroic and I couldn't even get passed the opening cinematic, I'm seeing Sargent Johnson blowing smoke at Master Chief and bam red lights. My 360 RROD'd 11 times this summer from overheating; whenever it RROD'd I would stop playing till tomorrow and I'd game again.

I don't feel like being angry at Microsoft even though my warranty expired. My parents put me through hell playing this thing anyway, it was never meant to be.

I'm sorry to hear about your XBox. Microsoft did extend the warranty, so perhaps it's still covered under that extension? If not that really sucks. :( It's interesting that you could get the XBox working again the following day. When mine RROD'd, that was it, it wasn't doing anything...

I'm sorry to hear of your issue though. :(

Thank you for your sympathy I appreciate it.

Microsoft and other publishers was bringin out the big guns.. The ballad of gay tony, MW2, ODST, Splinter Cell Conviction, that new 2D Sonic game in HD *cries*, etc.

Maybe this is a sign Idk but I never ever gamed hardcore on my 360 it was 3-4 hours tops (on rare occasion and even on those days I'd take 30min interval breaks)

I'm not going to bother getting a PS3 tbh, I'll just wait for the next generation of consoles to emerge, hopefully the quality control will go up a bit.

Sorry to hear that - I'd be angry at msft - but it did last more then 3yrs for your warranty to expire so that's something.

If you want to try something different perhaps go for a DX11 video card when they come out.

Hey if they port ODST to Windows I'm down.

I just realized I'm not going to be able to play REACH.. f***.

If the next xbox has superior build quality and backwards compatability (For some reason I know they will they have to) then I'll buy that one and play 360 games on it.

if you havent had to send in your xbox for repair to Microsoft yet, i would call in to see if they would replace it for free. For RRODs, they haven't asked for receipt copies on most occasions. its worth a try. Also, i have had manufacturers cover some repairs even outside of the warranty(this was for computers though) without asking for receipts.

Why don't you just call Microsoft and get it repaired? The RROD warranty is 3 years from purchase date so it would most likely be free. Even if it isn't, the cost of repair is only like 2 games.

I just don't understand why you decided to suffer with a broken box that would most likely die instead of fixing the issue. My Xbox got the E74 error the weekend before last, I sent it in, they fixed it for free and it'll be back and working great on Friday.

Also, overheating would be shown as 2 lights flashing. 3 lights is a hardware failure and doesn't necessary mean that it overheated. In fact, overheating actually can temporarily fix this issue (see: towel trick).

Ahh, another victim.

Welcome to the club, pal. I had 4 Xbox 360's die on me within under a year, and Microsoft finally told me to eat my $1,000 investment into the console and kick rocks.

2 issues here:

1) Where does the $1000 come from?

2) If they all died in under a year of purchase, you are covered under the warranty (3 years for Red Ring and E74).

Dude it red ringed 11 TIMES AND YOU JUST NOW REALIZED IT WAS A PROBLEM?

Jesus Christ dude its people like you that don't make ANY SENSE. Im sorry for sounding harsh, and its nothing against you but Ive had customers come in and bitch about there systems finally being dead(launch, zephyr) when finding out they red ringed a year before or red ringed MANY TIMES before they finally died.

THERES A REASON FOR THE RED RING, so you dont end up in this fed up situation where your out of luck and cant do **** about it.

CALL Microsoft, and explain to them that youve had your system forever and didn't expect it to break, and now that it did you would like them to please fix it. You never thought you would have problems with it and you are a loyal 360 owner/fan. Just be nice and sincere and KISS ASS, and they will repair it. A customer came in with a FIRST LAUNCH CONSOLE, like made in the first week they came out, I was so surprised. He called microsoft per my advice and did what I told him and they sent him a brand new system(with hdmi, so an arcade) and he was so happy.

If your a loyal owner, / first owner they treat you very well.

Next time, you see a problem with any of your electronics, dont let it go. Thats an indication that theres a PROBLEM

HDMI was added around July 2007, and if you have Zephyr motherboard:

  • this was always going to happen at some point
  • you have a HDMI port on your console, meaning
  • your console can't possibly be more than 3 years old, thus
  • you are covered under warranty

Get it fixed under warranty and you'll be fine, for a while at least.

1) The original console, extra remotes, and games combined came out to around $1,000.

2) First Xbox died a week after I got it, hardly touched it for another 2 years, then 3 of them died back to back.

If I put that much money into a system, I wouldn't just give up. However, seeing as you hardly touched it for 2 years, I'm guessing you didn't care about eating the money anyway.

I wish they would do that for me when I called. Mine was from when they first came out. It finally died not to long ago but was couple months out of warranty. They said all they would do was fix it if I sent it and paid for it to be repair. I didn't have warnings like him just went to turn it on one day to play and RROD. I don't have the money fix it right now so its just a paper weight for now. I'm sure it would died sooner but for awhile I didn't play it much when I first got it.

Why not just fix it? It's super easy.

How long does the fix take and does it solve the problem from happening again? I don't want to be fixing it to become a normal thing to do now that it gets played more.

I didn't touch it for two years because I was homeless, living out of my car, and working two jobs to keep myself afloat. I didn't just give up, either. I spent weeks on and off calling Microsoft, I filed a complain with the Better Business Bureau, and I tried to join a class action lawsuit.

A word of caution about assumptions, don't.

Who said that?

Audioboxer opens up his PS3 to clean it out. Does that seriously void the warranty?

long as you didnt peel the ms sticker on the front inside..

and yea, my 360 RRoD last week. It's been sitting in my living room and im contemplating fixing it myself being im way off warranty. its also a refurb from MS.

my 3rd... :/

im sure not spending another cent on these. should be fun dissecting it though.
