New Macbook pro 13 inch. How to upgrade?

Recommended Posts

Hi, I have just bought a new Macbook pro 13 inch laptop. There was a huge premium on a few gigs of extra storage and memory, so I just bought the basic model. In any case, the first thing I'll be looking to do is upgrade the internal storage to something in the region of 500GB+ - followed shortly after this by upgrading/increasing the memory.

My question is pretty simple. Essentially all I want to know is what kind of harddrive/interface and what kind of memory should I be looking out for to buy for this system?

My objective of course is to save money over the standard Apple/store price for these upgrades - but to do so without negatively impacting on performance.

Any input would therefore be appreciated.

Any SATA laptop HDD, and DDR3 laptop memory.

I dont know how easy the new 13 Pro is to upgrade I think you have to remove the entire bottom now.

They are compatible, the only difference is the throughput speed. I don't know if the 13 Pro supports the full II speed, but the drive will still work.

Leopard 10.5.8 on Macbook Pro 13" seems to support Sata II speed after Apple recently updated it's firmware in June or July...i forgot.

here's my 13" running a SATA II - 256gb SSD at 3 gbs
