DrunknMunky Veteran Posted September 14, 2009 Veteran Share Posted September 14, 2009 By Patrick GarrattThe second week of Direct 2 Drive?s birthday sale has brought some proper bargains: BioShock and Saints Row 2 are both on offer for $5 or ?5 each. The UK version?s here. Get on it. There?s plenty of other stuff there besides. We?re buying Saints Row 2 right now. Despite the fact we already own it. That?s how cheap it is. http://www.vg247.com/2009/09/14/d2d-offers...w-2-for-5-each/ I kicked myself for passing up on Steam selling Bioshock for dirt cheap last year. Time to grab it this t(Y) though (Y)
Sethos
SR is a major skip, terrible game to start with and the PC port is even worse than GTA IV from what I've been told. I might pick up Bioshock though, been looking to replay that sucker :D
+Audioboxer Subscriber² Posted September 14, 2009 Subscriber² Share Posted September 14, 2009 Does D2D require yet another application running in the background to play its games or not?
DrunknMunky Veteran Posted September 14, 2009 Author Veteran Share Posted September 14, 2009 Honestly have no idea, but I'll let you know once my download has finished. Right now I am just using Firefox to download a 6GB zip file and my serial key is in my account. So looks like it's just a normal installer? Total cost is $5.75 (?3.46, I think cheaper than Steam's offer), and they accept paypal(Y)).

Good cause I'm fed up with all these digital distribution sites offering their own ****ty application that I have to install alongside steam. NienorGT
Wow, nice deal! I may get GRAW2! Is SR2 really borked on PC? Anyone can confirm? $5 isn't a lot, but I would get other games instead (we are at week 2 of 5, RPG, Indie and Wargames next weeks)
DrunknMunky Veteran Posted September 15, 2009 Author Veteran Share Posted September 15, 2009 Just fyi, the zip file just extracts all the setup files as if you had cloned the retail disc. No bloated software (Y)

DrunknMunky Veteran Posted September 15, 2009 Author Veteran Share Posted September 15, 2009 Yeah I'm pretty certain all versions of Bioshock use Securom (i.e retail discs, Steam and D2D). You have to activate before you start the game. When the game originally came out it was limited to 3 activations, but they changed that. It's unlimited now, but you still gotta do it. DrunknMunky Veteran Posted September 15, 2009 Author Veteran Share Posted September 15, 2009 I was holding out on Steam offering the xmas offer again ($5) at the launch of Bioshock 2, if it released this year. I think they'll still do that eventually in 2010 though.
Waylander
from some googling it seems d2d used to use starforce, if they still do thats a good enough reason not to bother imo, not to mention its drm free on steam and bioshock will probably be part of the bioshock 2 preorder offer on steam
DrunknMunky Veteran Posted September 15, 2009 Author Veteran Share Posted September 15, 2009 It's not DRM at all on Steam. It uses SecuROM. They have support topics on their forums for it.
Waylander
there are also about a dozen topics saying it has been removed and it isnt mentioned on the store page like other securom protected titles
ViperAFK
D2D is such a **** site, tried to order something there for the first time today (NFS shift) and it kept saying transaction failed for no reason and I could not figured out why, turns out it was because my account was using a gmail address, made a new account with my school email and it worked.
