Arpit
so last week my mac shut down and refused to boot up. dreading the worst i took it to the apple store where the genius declared it dead as well. i made a thread about it here. today i decided to take it apart to salvage any/all of the working parts and see the guts of a mac for once myself. i unscrewed all but the 2~3 "star shaped" screws in the battery compartment and realized i don't have the tool for it, so decided to put it back together. while doing so i accidentally pressed the power button and it booted up! given i'm as techie as the clueless wanderer in bestbuy, i assume that something loosened up over time from my handling/carrying and just needed to be tightened. i'm still playing around with all the hardware/parts to see i didn't mess anything up but it seems to be running strong. much as i grew fond of the new 13" macbook pro i bought as the replacement, i'll be happy to return it and enjoy my 15" mbp for months to come...it's not as sleek and pretty, but there's a lot of sentimental value involved :). fingers crossed it lasts long.. Raa
Do a backup while it's running! QFT! Do it quickly! On a (not so) funny note, I had a teacher come into me to day and say they spilt water over their Mac Laptop. :|

Elliott
I've had good luck with my local Genius Bar, but I have heard some horror stories. I can usually hold a pretty intelligent "techie" conversation with some of the guys over there. :p Glad you got your MBP revived. Personally, I'd just sell the old 15" MBP on eBay while it's still alive (Macs tend to hold a pretty nice value for resale). You'll most likely have to pay a restocking fee on the 13" MBP you bought, unless you get ****y with the manager.

Good job brother, us Mac people are so smart. Time Machine FTW! I truly feel that TM and Spotlight are two of the best products that Cupertino has given us in the past few years. Oh, there's some phone too :)

+Dick Montage Subscriber² Posted September 15, 2009 Subscriber² Share Posted September 15, 2009 I have to admit, the feeling I got about the guys at the Genius Bar was based solely on word of mouth, and they had been held up as really handy, knowledgeable tecchie guys. When buying my 3GS I was listening to one guy describing how to solve a very minor issue - my opinion dropped. This dude over complicated the issue, and ultimately tied himself in knots. capr
you were unscrewing it with the battery still in it? for future reference you want to unplug and take the battery out before you start taking the hardware apart. just because it wont' boot doesn't mean it won't shock you. Darrian
LOL, when I read the thread title my first thought was "He installed Windows?" Glad to hear you got your PC running again. I agree with the sentiment: back up your data now while you can :D
