+Audioboxer Subscriber² Posted September 15, 2009 Subscriber² Share Posted September 15, 2009 Wireless N? Could it possibly cost more than the current :| ($100) They really gotta bring the price down on that, it's even worse than the hard drives. Wireless USB dongles cost peanuts. Ricardo Gil
and the point of this is?? Streaming HD content. is this draft spec or final rev? Final Wireless N?Could it possibly cost more than the currentb:|:| ($100)They really gotta bring the price down on that, it's even worse than the hard drives. Wireless USB dongles cost peanuts. I think they'll just phase out the current adapter and keep the same price...
acnpt
and the point of this is?? To improve the wireless adapter, as the new n standard has been released ;) . Hopefully they will phase out the current wireless adapter, and sell this for the same price. Also I'm hoping the twin aerials will provide a stronger signal :)
majortom1981
and the point of this is?? 802.11n has more bandwidth for streaming content and other things. Also Some of us have 100/15 connections that an 802.11n adapter would get us closer to the speed of our internet connections.

Gotenks98
Not going to get it. Still not better than powerline in my opinion. I would rather not have to deal with a flakey wireless connection doing online play.

Yeah, but if you want good speed you need to connect the devices directly to an outlet, extension cords take a lot of throughput away.

ToneKnee
Extension cords don't take that much away, unless of course they are knackered.

Ricardo Gil
Extension cords don't take that much away, unless of course they are knackered. Quality is indeed a factor, but even with regular quality cords it takes a good hit. A friend of mine has a Linksys powerline adapter, and it drops a lot whenever it's plugged through an extension. Bad copper? Maybe, but it's an issue to most people...

+Audioboxer Subscriber² Posted September 16, 2009 Subscriber² Share Posted September 16, 2009 Not necessarily. :p Sony could upgrade the PS3's built-in WiFi adaptor too. Except you can plug a Wireless N router or Access point into the back of the PS3s ethernet, then configure it to talk to your Wireless N modem/router that's hooked up to the internet. So it is possible already and it's probably still cheaper than the official 360 wireless adapter.
DrunknMunky Veteran Posted September 16, 2009 Veteran Share Posted September 16, 2009 It's not possible because 802.11 N was only finalised this week :p Anything on the market right now is draft N. It's not the same as final. And Wireless N routers / AP's are expensive. So don't count on it being a cheaper combo than this 360 dongle (or even the old one which you can buy for like ?35 these days).

Well everyone has to buy a Wireless N router for it to even be worth it in any of these scenarios, just comes down to what can you buy another Wireless N router/access point for compared to the 360 wireless adapter. Either way I'm just pointing out it's possible on the PS3, dunno if Ricardo knew that. There's access points from around ?30-50 - http://www.broadbandbuyer.co.uk/Shop/ShopS...?CategoryID=416 Obviously still draft right now but they'll be final soon.
