Cvrt7.62Ghst
Does anyone know who actually makes the AMLCD for the 30 inch Cinema HD monitor? I have gone though all the documents that I can find, and it always just says "Apple display". I used to have a Dell 2005FPW whose display was actually made by Samsung, and cost $100 less in one of their arguably better looking frames. I want a HD 30 in display, but don't want to get shafted in price again just because of the brand that wraps it. So I am looking to find out if the Apple display is built by someone else, and offered in a cheaper frame - namely less than $1700/$1200 refurbished. thealexweb
Well if they did I'd be very surprised, they make so little of their hardware. On Apple's website they claim your only buying hardware from one company, when infact the CPU is from Intel, graphics from nVidea, Hard Disk from somebody else, memory from (I don't know this one I'm just gonna throw a name at it, Kingston?). Cvrt7.62Ghst
That is what I am figuring as well. I am kinda picky about displays and want to know who's work I am really looking at before I buy.
XIII
Most Apple display is IPS so there is a good chance that you will get an LG. They may also start changing to Samsung PVA to cut cost so that is one thing you need to watch out.
CrashG
There's only a handful of actual LCD panel makers (same goes for the old CRT tubes also). I'm not sure who makes the panels for the Cinema HD though.
chrismaddern
I was once told it was LG but have no docs etc...
Simon Veteran Posted September 15, 2009 Veteran Share Posted September 15, 2009 Any reason you want the Apple display in particular? Do you feel it has a better quality than other monitors of its size? You should take a look around, read some reviews, etc. If you can't find a monitor as highly acclaimed, or that looks as good, as Apple's Cinema HD display, then you probably want Apple's Cinema HD display :p
Rob Veteran Posted September 15, 2009 Veteran Share Posted September 15, 2009 I've also heard LG, but also don't have any source to back that up :p
morphen
LGPHILLIPS panels are the most used LCD panels worldwide, in small lcd screens (sub 26"). Don't forget; if you don't take OSX in to consideration, Apple is just another OEM :p
+jamesyfx Subscriber² Posted September 15, 2009 Subscriber² Share Posted September 15, 2009 They definitely don't make their own displays, but I highly doubt you'll find the same panel in a different branded display. It's probably Samsung, since they do supply a lot of the other internals that Apple use.
Elliott
I think Apple's Cinema Displays are manufactured by LG.

I am just looking for the best quality display picture in WQXGA (2560?1600). In that class there is Samsung, Dell, HP, Apple, and Gateway. Now the Dell uses the LG.Philips S-IPS LM300WQ1 display in it's 3007WFP-HC, I can't find what Samsung uses - but it does have less than half the response time of the Apple or the Dell, and I am not bothering to really look at the Gateway or the HP. It boils down to whether the Apple uses something better, or is the price just jacked up by having a half eaten silver plated Gala on it.
