SQL 2008 + Office 2007 Irony

Question

OK so I don't understand M$:

There's Office 2007 and there's SQL 2008 (2008>2007), and the irony is this: I'm on SQL 2008 and I needed to import data to a table from an Excel 2007 file, just when I was on the import screen I found that I NEED THE EXCEL 2003 VERSION SO I CAN IMPORT!!!! WHY?????? If SQL 2008 was released after Office 2007 why didn't they include the .xlsx compatibility, Why if even themselves don't include compatibility with their own products why to include the damn 'X' at the end of the file type extension.... I know I can save as Office 2003 file within Office 2007 but WHY?????? If I had SQL 2005 ok I have to, but SQL 2008????? I MEAN M$ SUCKS!!!!! And they even charge tons of money for their ****ty products as if they were perfect!!!!!!!

no, more like you suck and don't know how to do this correctly... ;)

are you using SSIS to import data (you must be)

if you are using the excel data source control it only supports up to 2003 (i think) as it uses the jet driver..

use can use OLEDB connection to read an .xslx file, let me know how you get on :)

as for the price of microsofts products, they are cheap when compared to other similar products from oracle, sap, hyperion etc... so i don't know what you're moaning about :o

the data import tools specify office 97 - 2003 in the dialog box but you simply click the XLSX 2007 file and it will open it no problem. Ive imported a lot of information from excel 2007 to SQL Server 2008. Also ensure you have SP1 installed as it helps a lot with the tools and the server.

IMO SQL Server comes with the best set of tools ive ever used on any Database system.
