RLOD?

Was watching some family guy this morning on the PS3, when it suddenly beeped and turned itself off. At the time I was just about to go out, so I thought nothing off it and just switched it off at the back and left.

However now when I come to turn it on it beeps 3 times, flashes yellow, green and then blinks red constantly.

Is it ****ed?

Take the hard drive out, then put it back in. Maybe let it cool down if it's hot to the touch. Also try turning the PS3 back on without the hard drive in, should turn on, but just not fully boot up.

I believe this problem is to do with the hard drive.

Power down at the back before taking the hard drive out.

Well I just rang them up, the bloke was actually English which was nice, and basically because it's out of the warranty he wants me to fax/post over the receipt from play.com along with the reference number he gave me, and then they may be able to fix it for free with the in warranty service, but he wasn't going to guarantee it.

It's all a bit annoying really as I'm moving away to uni next monday.

Every time I've called Sony they have always been English. To tell you the truth I've found Sony to be brilliant in their customer service. Although I had mine replaced I was fortunate to get it free out of warranty due to the nature of the issue.

?120 replacement fee if its out of warranty IIRC.

I rang Sony on Friday and my replacement arrived on Tuesday. Once the ball is rolling they are very quick. They can extract discs from knackered machines too but that takes several weeks.

Well I'll post them off the receipt tomorrow (I don't have access to a fax machine), and they said they'll ring me back.

So I guess I'll just have to wait and see...

Well I'll post it first class tomorrow morning (it's a shame I don't have access to a fax machine really, that would be a lot quicker), and then if I haven't heard back by Saturday I will ring them again and pester. :)

Well as it happens I managed to find a fax machine in my local museum that I could use for a ?1, so I went for that option rather than posting it.

Hopefully they'll ring me back within the next day or two, otherwise I'll give them another call.

I don't think you're supposed to touch the exhibits:pp

Incase of emergency I used to use a service called eFax www.efax.com not too sure if it's still a free 'limited' trial or not though.

Not used in years so might not be any good now, work seems to have blocked the site so can't check either.

Seems like there is still a 30 day trial that you can use, will be good to know for future reference, thanks. :)

Well, I caved and rang them rather than waiting.

So now I have a refurbished PS3 on the way to me that will arrive sometime between 8am-6pm on Monday, and I can just do a straight swap for my broken one. Great service by Sony. (Y)

I'm still ****ed about losing the game saves and all of the downloads, though. (N)

New console arrived today, I am glad it came early (about 10am) as I am off to uni in about an hour and noone would have been in.

In regards to the share account, I tried ringing up Sony to deactivate my old console, but they said he wouldn't do it. I then said the account already has 5 activations on and I need my old one deactivated so I can get the new, refurbished one on the account. He then said the purpose of the system was not for game sharing but if you replace consoles you could still access your account.

So unless AbandonedTrolley can get all the activations on the account reset, that's two dud activations on it and we might as well make a new one so we can share with 5 people, but you guys will still have access to the old content.

Bit annoyed he wouldn't do it, especially as I now lose out on the content we bought together on the account.

  • 2 months later...

Just a bit of an update: this weekend has been the first time I've actually been able to play some games on the refurbrished unit since receiving it and unfortunately it seems that I have received one that resembles that of a jet engine. :(

My old one was quiet as anything, however on this one, after playing MW2 for a short time yesterday the fans kicked into high gear and I could noticably hear it above the sounds from the game. (It sounds practically as high as that of when you force the console to do the fan test).

Rubbish.

Yeah phone that in, don't accept a faulty console as a return, even if it is just fan noise. Well saying "just" fan noise, it's the number one thing that annoys me :p
