[Javascript] Best Code Editor

Question

Hi folks,

I'm a huge fan of the way Frontpage 2000/2003 had integrated panes for design and preview, making it extremely easy to view the code you're writing and make amendments just by switching a tab, rather than in DW doing a Preview in Browser or save in Notepad++ and then refresh in Mozilla. Ideally I'm looking for a good fully-featured code editor, perhaps with autocomplete that has the preview pane integrated.

Any ideas? I'm currently using Notepad++ and like the simplicity mixed with FTP connector and syntax highlighting.

Cheers for any advice!!

Never thought of using Visual Studio - I'll give that a go Antaris!

Notepad2 is nice but misses the FTP client that Notepad++ has, so you can directly edit from the server. I can't imagine not having that feature after living with it for so long!! :)

Thats true, but I prefer to have a dedicated FTP program, which I choose to use SmartFTP.

Do you not find it annoying downloading -> minor edit -> upload -> check -> minor edit -> upload -> check .... etc?

I use FireFTP in Firefox for other transfers

Thats not a proper release stratergy, really in simple scenarios, you'd be developing it on your machine before you test it. And if you are happy with it, you can then upload it...

Notepad 2 is indeed a very handy tool. I am not a fan of frontpage, because there are limited capabilities and it seems a bit too disfunctional to complete my line of work.
