hjf288
So I've played the classic RPGs such as Baldurs gate 1&2, NWN 1&2 plus expansions, Mass Effect... And I'm wanting a new RPG to play.. Sci-Fi would be good but ye'olde dungeons and dragons is good also... Any recommendations? Cheers
Shadrack
I've been playing Dungeons and Dragons online with my friends and it has been a lot of fun so far. Its free to play, but some of the higher level content you have to pay for.
hjf288
Not really looking for a MMORPG, more of something I can do offline mostly... Thanks for the input though :)
Cheshire Wolf
A friend recently turned me on to Demon's Soul. Maybe you should give that a try.
ThePistols
Fallout 3 is class. Deus Ex is an oldie but a real goldie (sci fi too).
Shadrack
Calling it a MMORPG is an overstatement. Its basically the same as Guild Wars where the cities are full of people but as soon as you walk outside its basically a single player/small group game. I believe you can solo a lot of the content (given the right class). But if it isn't your cup of tea, then i understand ;). Still, can't complain about the price. You might be interested in Oblivion or maybe Fallout 3. I personally didn't like Oblivion, but it is generally one of the top-picks from hardcore RPG fans. trag3dy
I second Fallout 3. It's fun once you get into it. And then you have addons/mods to extend the life of the game. To me Oblivion was not nearly as interesting, even though for the most part both Oblivion and Fallout 3 have the same color styles and area themes throughout. It gets uninteresting seeing the same textures in dungeons everywhere you go, this applies more to Oblivion than Fallout 3 though. Nvm...I should read posts more before I respond. Well, it's not out yet, but I think you might be interested in Borderlands. It comes out within a month or so. Although that's not terribly helpful right now. http://www.amazon.com/Borderlands-Pc/dp/B0...2748&sr=8-
svnO.o
Even though "The Last Remnant" got bad reviews I'd say it's a pretty underrated game and worth trying for RPG fans. If you have a decent PC rig and like the FF series I recommend trying it, otherwise you'll be annoyed by load times/animation stuttering. Fallout 3 is my first recommendation though but since some people have already mentioned it I won't say much about it.

I completed the Last Remnant, took me awhile but it was underrated :) See my predicament, most the stuff you guys are recommending, Ive already completed :( Seems like no matter how I search - I cant find anything recent.. are RPGs dead these days on the PC? Minifig
Didnt really appeal to me.. Didnt give me a reason to complete it so dropped it after a few hours... Just out of curiosity, how far did you get into it ? After you get past Weynon Priory, it -really- starts to pick up, and then after the first Oblivion gate is shut, for the next.. oh.. 30 odd hours ( if you don't do ALL the gates ) it's a crazy ride. After all the gates ( 60 of them! ) are shut.. (which will take you more than thirty hours! ), ( once you complete the main quest, all the gates shut, so you can't enter them any more.. just fyi! ) you can continue on and do so so much more. My favorite Quest Line is the Dark Brotherhood line.. the Assassin's Guild quest line. So dark, so much fun, and so dang challenging but the rewards are off the hook. Sorry.. I'm kinda babbling. Oblivion is one of my all time favorite games.
trag3dy
I guess you didn't see my edit, so I'll post it again. It's not helpful for you right this moment but a game called Borderlands comes out next month and it looks quite interesting to me. Those that liked Fallout 3 should like it quite a bit. http://www.amazon.com/Borderlands-Pc/dp/B0...2748&sr=8-3 Fps/RPG mix. It looks quite fun and has a quite unique art style to it. Shadrack
I tried to get into Oblivion multiple times because so many people recommended it and were complete ape **** over it. I even bought the strategy guide thinking if I had direction I'd like it more. TBH I got more into Morrowind than Oblivion. Something about Oblivion felt very empty to me (pun intended). ScorpioRGc1
Not recent by any means, but if you liked Mass Effect, check out Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic (and KotOR II) if you haven't. The first KotOR just came out on Steam the other day, in fact. I actually just finished a playthrough of it a few hours ago (my first one in a couple of years, actually). Jade Empire is also pretty good (it was the game Bioware made after KotOR). I also just started playing The Wither: Enhanced Edition earlier, and am really digging it so far. :) I'll agree that Fallout 3 is very, very good. Normally, I'd also recommend Oblivion (one of my all time favorite games, even more than FO3, actually), but you already mentioned you didn't care for it. I should also note that Bethesda offers the first two Elder Scrolls games (Arena and Daggerfall) for free, so if you don't mind pretty old RPGs that require DOSBox to run, you might look into those (they're quite a bit different than Morrowind/Oblivion). Dashel
Nothing really current unfortunately. NWN2+1st expansion and the Witcher are probably two of the better recent titles.

lalalawawawa
The Witcher. It may seem a bit dull in the beginning, when you're at the starting location, but it gets better and better after you finish the prologue. So many people, so many locations, so many ingredients, so many potions. So freaking many things to do. :)
Caleo Global Moderator Posted October 5, 2009 Global Moderator Share Posted October 5, 2009 Dragon Age: Origins is coming soon (november 3rd). Another Bioware RPG and it's looking pretty awesome. Check out this video: http://www.gametrailers.com/video/ceo-inte...ragon-age/52538 Borderlands, a comicy cell-shaded "Role Playing FPS" is coming soon too, October 26th. Not quite as RPG-ish as what you're probably looking for, but it may be worth a look. Also, a game that's already out is Risen. It's not for everyone, but if you like finding your own way/doing your own thing in RPGs, Risen is for you. It doesn't hold your hand & tell you where to go all the time.. very long game too if you do all the side quests. My first game was probably somewhere between 10 and 15 hours before I realised I messed it up by stealing from pretty much everyone (something fixable with "Jest" scrolls (basically, "forget that I stole from you and talk to me again" scrolls) - I just didn't want to spend any more time trying to find enough jest scrolls to make amends). My second game I was able to get through stuff pretty quickly because I knew what I was doing for the most part, so I've made my way to Chapter 2 (JUST started it) in about 10-20 hours (it's hard to tell really, I lose track of time playing it and there aren't game time counters on the saves). Apparently there are 4 chapters.
Nagisan
The Witcher. It may seem a bit dull in the beginning, when you're at the starting location, but it gets better and better after you finish the prologue. So many people, so many locations, so many ingredients, so many potions. So freaking many things to do. :) I might have to try this again, tried it awhile ago but it didn't run very well for whatever reason and I got bored as heck running around the castle (the starting area). Dragon Age: Origins is coming soon (november 3rd). Another Bioware RPG and it's looking pretty awesome.Check out this video: http://www.gametrailers.com/video/ceo-inte...ragon-age/52538 Definitely one I am looking forward to, I remember watching a preview of it awhile ago and it talked about this part where there will be a guy in a cage that you can either set free, doing so may lead to more quests later, at the same time that guy may not be in a cage on another character. Essentially, the game has a few random variables that will change the experience (to a certain extent) with each character you play.
