dead.cell
This shouldn't really come as a surprise to anyone who has followed the game since its Korean release late last year, or those of you who frequent AionSource -- the leading English-speaking Aion fansite in the world -- but Aion has broken records for preorders, and now looks to be the biggest MMO release in North America and Europe of 2009.With more than 400,000 preorders so far, the game kicks off its headstart for all of those eager players with tomorrow's server pre-selection, and then opening up the game itself on September 20th -- just 3 short days from now -- for a 2-day headstart. Are you as excited as we are for the release of this game? Check out the press release below, or head over to AionSource and AionArmory to get acquainted with the game in preparation for release! Source Dunno about you guys, but I'm certainly looking forward to it. :)

Udedenkz
MMO? We already have WoW.
Mega Goatlord
Probably because NCsoft isn't accurately accounting for those that have cancelled their pre-orders. I canceled mine after the last closed beta, and NCsoft is still showing me as having a valid CE order on my account.
+longgonebn Subscriber² Posted September 18, 2009 Subscriber² Share Posted September 18, 2009 Why does WOW have to be mentioned every FRACKING time. Yea been playing since Closed Beta, had it pre-ordered since then as well, can't wait.
trag3dy
I've had mine pre ordered since early June. I've been watching this game on and for for several years. I can't wait as well.
McCordRm
I pre-ordered the Collector's Edition. Sadly, I probably won't be leaving Champions Online anytime soon so it's just going to sit in limbo. heh
dead.cell
ive heard a lot about it, but havnt checked it out yet. Actually, it was just last week when I heard they past 300,000. Was amazed to see how much it's picked up consider this past week has had nothing really going for it since the open beta was closed. What I find more amazing though is that there haven't been all these commercials or any massive marketing yet for the game, and it's already building up this kind of steam. MMO? We already have WoW. And that's the problem. This seems to be one of the first MMOs though I've seen that's actually quite polished. Warhammer was fun, but good god was it buggy, even today. I'm a WoW player myself, but I could certainly use a breath of fresh air from WoW. It's sorta funny to see how much discussion is going on about it too in the Off-Topic discussion area on the WoW forums. Seems I'm not the only one looking for something new. gigapixels Veteran Posted September 18, 2009 Veteran Share Posted September 18, 2009 I still have my pre-order, but I likely won't be playing until I need another break from WoW. Seeing as I have a DK tank ready to raid, a Druid approaching 80 and a new Shaman, I won't be quitting any time soon  GameStop didn't allow for cancellation once I got beta access. So while they're still counting canceled pre-orders, they're also counting those with no choice. I'm not putting it down at all as it's a fantastic game, but I think a good amount of pre-orders won't be leading to subscriptions.
Xenomorph
I pre-ordered the Collector's Edition. Sadly, I probably won't be leaving Champions Online anytime soon so it's justgoing to sit in limbo. heh I've read about "Champions Online" several times now. I thought that was the EverQuest PS2 game. Did someone really make a new MMO with a name similar to spinoff of another MMO? I Googled the name and apparently Champions Online has nothing to do with the PS2 Online Champions (of Norrath) game, and it actually some cheesy Superhero game like City of Heroes. Minifig
I'm going to going to go ahead and call this BS as not every MMO out has released their numbers that they got for pre-orders. Champions Online didn't announce their numbers and they're certainly not willy-wagging about them and saying "Look at us with our massive pre-order sales!". I mean seriously.. who gives a frak? Out of these 400,000 pre-orders, how many are going to continue to play after the first month?
dead.cell
I'm going to going to go ahead and call this BS as not every MMO out has released their numbers that they got for pre-orders.Champions Online didn't announce their numbers and they're certainly not willy-wagging about them and saying "Look at us with our massive pre-order sales!". I mean seriously.. who gives a frak? Out of these 400,000 pre-orders, how many are going to continue to play after the first month? It's not just how many preorders, but the fact that they've apparently broken preorder sale records, gaining roughly 100,000 after the open beta closed. Also, may I remind you, they haven't even pulled out any big guns of any sort with advertising. Hell, I'd figure much of their advertising comes from people who enjoyed the beta and are posting on the WoW forums, considering their off-topic section is full of Aion Online posts. For those that enjoyed playing the beta, it comes as good news to know that Aion Online will have its fair share of traffic at release (as if there wasn't enough during the beta). Just because Champions Online didn't have similar news to share doesn't mean you have to get all butthurt about it and bash Aion. Oh, and also, not every MMO has a great number of preorders / sales at release so it's obvious to see why some developers wouldn't want to release their numbers. Blackhearted
Hm. 400k preorders for a game that ended up being only 'average' at it's best despite all the hype. It's impressive how easily drawn in people are just on hype. Why does WOW have to be mentioned every FRACKING time. Because it's still the king mmo. Nothing has risen to stop it yet, and nothing will anytime soon(aion included). Until an mmo actually becomes good enough to beat wow, or until blizz ends it, expect to keep seeing it mentioned every time a new mmo is hyped up and released.
