kl33per
We need to declare South Australia no longer a state so we can get some stuff done in this country. Damn straight! In all serious, this is completely ridicoulous. SA needs to get rid of that AG so we can have a ratings scheme for games that is equivalent to our rating system for movies. It is patently ridicoulous that I won't be able to play Left 4 Dead 2. Here's to hoping the 360 version is not region locked so I can import it. I imported Ghostbusters after Sony tied up the PAL distribution and made it a timed PS3 exclusive and that worked great. I plead to Valve, leave the game region free on the 360. ]SK[
If people Aus really want to play this game they will have to go underground to do so. Feel sorry for you guys. Im sure there will be a few people on Ebay etc that will be willing to ship to Aus.
SojIrOu
That sucks. No matter though, I import all my games anyway since its so much cheaper online and gets here 2 weeks to a month in advance before local launch dates.
Shadrack
And there lies the problem, one of the attorney general's believes that games are only for children, and that adults don't play games, and refuses to allow an R18+ rating for games (while we have one for movies, books, etc.) You have book rating??? Wow, I have never heard of that one before...
Hurmoth
Only in Americ- oh, wait. Seriously, America constantly gets dumped on for having such a strict rating system when it comes to TV and a game that isn't exactly as easy to play (considering you have to go out and buy it) as it is to watch TV is banned? Or almost the equivalent to being banned. Of course, if someone like Hillary Clinton ever got their way, games like this would be banned. Hopefully that never happens. .KICK
????The US has a pretty lax rating system for TV and games as far as I've seen. Same with films such as the R rating which baffles me. Taking anyone under 17 is allowed as long as there is someone over 17 with them. I saw History of Violence and some mum took her 10 year old kid to see it! I am sure Valve won't do anything if they see Australian accounts with it though.
]SK[
I notice swearing is an issue on TV in the US. I watch quite a few shows on YouTube for example Hell's Kitchen which is full of beeping. When it's played on ITV in the UK it's shown in its full glory. I remember when Jay-Z came on Johnathan Ross and loved the fact he could swear on TV. Hurmoth
????The US has a pretty lax rating system for TV and games as far as I've seen. Not during the Super Bowl a few years back. Remember the incident and how everyone went crazy and everyone started demanding more censorship. Now everything that's live is on a five second delay I think it is. And as ]SK[ points out, swearing is a big issue here. I was actually shocked when I heard in one of last season's episodes of Two and a Half Men, Charlie calls someone a douche bag. That was new for me on US TV, or, well the regular stations. The "big three" (ABC, NBC, CBS) are regulated a lot more than the cable stations (HBO, Showtime, etc.). They wanted to show Dexter on CBS two years ago during the WGA Strike and everyone seemed to have a fit about that when it is no more graphic than CSI (excluding the nudity and language). ScorpioRGc1
So L4D2 is the next game to be banned in Australia... Still, if I were you guys, I wouldn't fret yet: there's still a chance that'll get changed, like what happened with Fallout 3 and FEAR 2, IIRC. When you're going to the theatre, most of the people who work there are under 17. They don't care how old the audience is as long as they're getting a paycheck. :p I went to see Halloween back in 2007 and noticed an older woman, I mean she had to be at least in her 50's if not older, and she had her grandchildren with her (they couldn't have been even 10 yet I don't think). That was some sick ****!
Denis W. Veteran Posted September 18, 2009 Veteran Share Posted September 18, 2009 Now I can see why Valve made excessive fun of Australians in the Team Fortress 2 class update packs. :p
The_Decryptor Veteran Posted September 19, 2009 Veteran Share Posted September 19, 2009 You have book rating??? Wow, I have never heard of that one before... We have book ratings as well as a list of banned books. Now I can see why Valve made excessive fun of Australians in the Team Fortress 2 class update packs. :p Or because the TF creators are Australian :p
ViperAFK
????The US has a pretty lax rating system for TV and games as far as I've seen. The U.S. system is really weird, we are very lax with violence, but we can't have swearing or nudity, that would just be wrong!
BlackSteyrAug
They should ban it everywhere imo. Nah, but in all seriousness, that's kind of messed up to ban the game completely instead of a allowing the game through the rating system like in America. I guess Valve will have to come up with some other way or getting the game released. Wouldn't it still work through Steam?
ozgeek
Sucks too but I don't mind about this game. Played the bad copy of the first game. Didn't like it much.
GrimReeper
I will just have to 'import it' wink wink..from an online 'retailer'.. +1 I think some people in SA need to make like a hunter and make the attorney general absent at the next vote.
