MacBook Pro 15" To MacBook Pro 13"

Recommended Posts

Hi Guys,

Well I had a 15" 2007 version 2,1 MacBook Pro which I sold to purchase myself a 13" 2009 version 5,5 MacBook Pro.

I have to say the switch is perfect for me! I've played with netbooks and found them to be way to small (10' ones) but this 13" MacBook Pro is an awesome size! they are incredibly durable feeling, the sound is pretty much the same quality (which I wasn't expecting at all!).

The battery life for these things are also amazing, I can spend pretty much all day at work on battery at the moment, only thing I'm worried about is can the battery be replaced at all?

As for comparing the machines, its so much smoother running that the 15" I had, its quieter as well, and the screen is amazingly bright.

I have had a few laptops now and by far this is the best buy I've had soooo its 2 thumbs up from me.....

So questions are:

-Can the battery be replaced when it dies?

-Can the RAM be upgraded? (Looks like it'd be hard to change).

-Can the Hard be upgraded? (Also looks like it'd be hard to change).

Cheers,

Offroad!

-Can the battery be replaced when it dies?-------------------------> YES, BUT you have to take it to an Apple Store or send it in to apple, this shouldn't be a problem thought they are supposed like 2 1/2 times longer than any other battery

-Can the RAM be upgraded? (Looks like it'd be hard to change).----------> YES, http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1270

-Can the Hard be upgraded? (Also looks like it'd be hard to change).-----------> YES, http://manuals.info.apple.com/en_US/MBPRO_...d_Drive_DIY.pdf

Try this: http://eshop.macsales.com/installvideos/ma...pro_13_unibody/

I used this site before I purchased my Mac Pro. Was extremely helpful in finding out how easy things are to upgrade & install, as well as where certain connectors are and interior layouts.

Thats a pretty cool site, but for the battery it is NOT a DIY, must be done by apple

Yup. That's a 'take it into the Apple Store or send it away or 'Authorized Repairer' job.

It shouldnt really be more expensive than just buying a battery. I mean, to get a battery you really have to go to the Apple Store anyway. its not really an issue to take your Macbook with you and getting them to do it on-site. Plus, how often do you replace your batter? I looked at my usage scenarios for my Macbook Pro (2007) over the last two years, and I've never needed to carry a second battery with me. The only time it was replaced was at an Apple Store anyway, so that really wasnt an issue for me.

Guess its the lack of freedom that bothers people when it comes to this.
