Modded Xbox thread

the x2.2 is already out, and supports the 1.3 xboxes, and can come with a pogo pin adapter.

i think they is talking about either the new x3 or the x-bit. they are both currently being worked on, and won't be out for a couple months.

here's the link to the x-bit. http://www.dms3.com/x-bit.htm

I know the x2.2 is out, but the pogo pin adapter doesn't work for 1.2 boxes. The x-bit was what I was thinking of. It's supposed to be solderless even on 1.2/1.3 boxes.

I dont see why anyone would buy a modchip right now, they will have the non solder stuff done and working on all the xbox's in less than a month more than likely...

honestly, from what i've read, the exploits suck. they are good for learing and messing around, but if you wanna get the job done fast and easy, and have easy on/off capabilities, a modchip is still the way to go.

plus all the exploits so far are patchable, and will be fixed in future xboxes. there'll still be a need for chips...

After seeing the techtv feature on xbox mod chips, I became really interested in buying an xbox. It just looked so cool with that new OS. I really, really want one. And being able to load DVDs onto the hard drive is awesome.

I was wondering, what's the most trustworty/best site to buy a pre-modded xbox with a 40 - 120 GB hard drive from?

Thanks.

yeah, buy the stuff yourself and take it to a trusted person. that's what i did, and it's the cheapest way. here's why: they charge you full price for the hdd, which is usually like $150 or so. but, pretty much every week, they have 120 and 160gb hdds on sale after rebate for like $60-$70 bucks. so you're better off buying the hdd and chip yourself, and take it to somebody to mod. if you go to www.xbox-scene.com and look in the forums, there's a thread devoted to just this. find someone in your area and send em a message. you can also read what people had to say about them.

you can play copied games and play videos though your lan, what more would you want to do? you can do the job just as easy now without a modchip, you really can. the 007 hack was around before v1.2 and they didnt find a way to patch it, doubt they will

sorry, i meant to say i was talking about the new exploits (the totally solder free ones) like bert and ernie (the font exploit).

don't you still have to load the 007 hack before every unsigned thing you run though? i see it as workable, but annoying. chip is still the easiest imo...

If you use the exploit you can just resign all the XBEs you want to run, then have the exploit load EvoX (or whatever you like the most) at bootup, then you can start any homebrew stuff you want from within EvoX (just as long as you've signed it). I have it set up like that on my brothers Xbox, until he gets his modchip.

ok, so maybe you can explain to me then. you load 007 first (original cd in drive), load save game, browse to games folder, then load game. am i correct so far?

then what happens when you want to play a different game? do you have to reboot, reload 007, load save game, then load new game? or can you use the IGR and just go back to evox, and load a new game?

i was reading the forums at xbs, and from what i understood, it was a pain in the ass unless you flashed your tsop...(which meant also soldering the 2 points...)

The 007 exploit and the font exploit are 2 completely different things. The font exploit affects the MS Dashboard and runs from the harddrive, while with the 007 exploit, you need to start the 007 game every time you want to execute unsigned code.

I'm sorry if I was unclear in my earlier post, but it was the font exploit that I was talking about.

as you can read in my sig, I am currently running the Bert & Ernie Font exploits, everything worked perfectly. Running Evox, and homebrew works perfectly without having to sign it. Games work perfectly also, all without opening the box! it was fast, very simple also. I can even get back to the original MSdash.

Is it possible to use config magic to change my Xbox to NTSC?

I've registered Xbox Live on my Xbox (PAL) but I'm getting KoToR from the US, is it possible to change the Xbox to NTSC then turn the chip off and then access Live?

Also, is it possible to change between DVD regions? Mine says "DVD Kit Zone - 2"

Edit, I just tried something called "Enigmah Videomode Switchdisc". I left it on Pal, turned the Xbox off, turned the switch off and loaded Halo, ran fine. Chip on, changed to NTSC, chip off and Halo didn't run, I haven't got KoToR yet but would this be enough?

Well if your Halo is PAL, then it shouldn't run if you switch the box over to NTSC, right?

You can not switch between regions without the mod-chip activated. Well you can't really switch between them otherwise either, but you can patch the MS dashboard DVD player to make it region free using DVD-X v1. Haven't done that on mine though since I don't own any DVDs other than region 2 and region free ones.

I changed to NTSC in Enigmah and Config Magic reported "Video and XBE region" as "NTSC, Region 4" as opposed to "PAL, Region 4". It hasn't actually changed the region of Xbox has it? It looks as though I'm going to have to forfeit the Live features of KotOR and play it with the chip on and ethernet cable out.

i thought you could switch from pal to ntsc, then turn the chip off, and use live. to my knowledge, it's just a simple setting, and doesn't affect anything else.

Ok, KotOR dropped onto my doorstep today (so much for 10 days delivery :woot: ) but simply selecting NTSC in Enigmah doesn't do anything, as I suspected. When I change to NTSC and turn the chip off it says Invalid region. I suspect I have to change the EEPROM in Config Magic. Is it enough to just change the text that says Region 4? Or to I have to find a new EEPROM and flash it?

Until then I'll play it with the chip on :D

Props to Tronix as well, I'll be using them as my importer for everything from now on. The game and chipping came to ?37, I chose 10 day Global shipping and that was thursday night. When I ordered it I was informed I'd missed the first batch as well. The game still got to me this morning. There was no customs charge either because I politely asked them to mark down the value of the game:happy:: so cool.

Gonna stick that in my sig

  • 1 month later...

hey guys, did you hear they broke the 137gb barrier? a simple bios patch takes care of everything. i think i'm gonna be in the market for a 300gb hdd soon :)
