If you have a moded xbox theres a great piece of software out that lets you play online very easily

Bo-XLink: The Future Of Tunneling..

What? You've got a modified XBox? Walk this way.. Bo-XLink, one of the XLink Messenger tools brings the online gaming experience completely to your TV screen. No more running between the XBox and the PC anymore - hell, you can even talk to each other using this thing.. outrageous..

http://www.xboxlink.co.uk/boxlink-about.php

you have to have xlink running on your pc but control what games and rooms to play on from you xbox... its quality i even have live and prefer this, mainly because halo / thps4 works online and i can play games from the hard drive. It beats the pants of xbconnect

heres a screenshot of the xbox interface, you can get it from xbins

Okay guys, I think I am going to get a modchip within the next week. However I am curious about one thing. I plan to get this chip:

http://www.kingstonmods.com/details.php?pid=x22lite

The Xecuter 2.2 Lite. My main question is about the bios banks. The site says that I can use 2 512K bioses, or 1 1024K bios. So this means that if I use a 1024K bios, I will not be able to switch back to the xbox dashboard because there is no room for it? Or will turning it off simply revert me back to the xbox dash?

thanks.

you are correct that if you turn off the chip, you will revert back to default original xbox dash.

now i can't remember exactly, but with the old 4978 bios (the 1024K one) there were issues with the lites, becuase technically, they can't hold a single 1024k bios. they can only hold 2x512k or 4x256K. this means you can have 2 different 512K bioses. like right now, i have the default x4977 in banks 1 & 2, and my own custom version of x4977 in banks 3&4.

So how come the place where I plan to buy it from says that the XL 2.2 can hold a 1024k bios? Also, could you please explain the numbers you use for the bioses, such as 4978, or x4977? Thanks again.

Or maybe I should get a Xecuter 2.2 Lite Plus instead?

" So how come the place where I plan to buy it from says that the XL 2.2 can hold a 1024k bios?"

i believe it is a mistake on several people's parts. because the 4 banks are broken up into 2 banks of 2, it can't read across the 2 banks. there may be workarounds though.

x4977 is just how they label the bios releases. 4978 is just 4977 + a built in ftp server.

You don't really need anything other than 256K bios size.. the larger 1mb/512k bioses are just gimics really... imho theres no need for a ftp server in a bios, seems to cause more trouble than its worth... maybe in the future there will be a worthy bios larger larger than 256k

I believe theres a bios loader as well so u can boot any bios from the hard drive meaning the bios size is the limit of your hard drive

Ok

EvoX

Beginners Dash

Easy to create menu

Very poor looking

in game reset(good if you got a cheap old mod)

Avalaunch

(not tried latest version today)

IRC client

Not the best looking still a massive improvement over evoX

MXM

Very good skinning features

Good Looking

anyone on here shouldn't have trouble creating the menu/installing

XBMP

Quick access to music/movies

not the best interface to launch games/apps

NeXgen

alpha version was good imho, currently being completed by diffrent people now...

One to look out for in the future

Maybe this will make it clearer

Evox=Dos

Avalaunch=Win98

XBMP=2000

MXM=WinXP

NeXgen=longhorn :)

bios are basicaly applied to mod chips. (xbox has its own bios) thus installin diff bios On-to the chip (mod chip) bypassing the defualt bios allowing homebrew software.

dashboards use 1 bios. not 1 bios for each dash.

u can now also mod or hack the microsoft dash, which is what im usin now, although it has no ftp acces. for ftp u can use evox or avlaunch.

moddin the ms dash is a lil more complex then just installin evox. so i recommend u know ur stuff before trying.

they will or has alreaby broken the 137gig barrier, so 200gig drives and up will soon be a reality on the xbox.

keep an eye out for that.

id post some sites for info but i dont know if its against this boards policys.

email me for any info. :ninja:

Am I correct in saying that there is a bios that accompanies each dashboard?

no, you just need one bios. you will rarely be chaning your bios. and no, you don't need a x2.2 pro unless you are programming your own homebrew software.

evox really isn't that bad. yes it's basic, but i like basic stuff. however, mxm owns, and is what i'm currently using.

oh, and get the biggest hard drive possible. my 137gb were filled up almost instantly...

ouuuch, I only got the stock hd, I plan on putting my computers 40gig in there once I upgrade my ****ty pc, what all do you have on there? I know you can stream musak and movies from the pc so that at least frees up lots of space for me on my xbox,

i only have games on my hdd. nothing else. all 137gb are full. as soon as the lba48 patch gets more polished, i'm gonna apply that to my bios so i can use all 160gb. although, as soon as prices come down a little more, i'm getting a 250 or 300gb :)

i stream all my movies and friends episodes from a separate 160gb in my main pc.
