Modded Xbox thread

Recommended Posts

I Just got an X-Box and i would really like to mod it.....however i do not want to open the case and void my warranty if it wont work right. I recently read that The X-Box version 1.4 and 1.5 will not work with modchips (as of this point). On the back of the box that it came in, it has little pictures of games....one of them is KOTOR. This seems to suggest that it was manufactured fairly recently. I looked at xbox-scene.com at the version checks and my manufacturer date is 11-16-2002. My BIOS version is 4817. Is there any chance that mine could be a 1.4 or 1.5? This may seem stupid, but i dont want to mess anything up (as in void my warranty for no reason).

thanks

also, what modchip would you all recomend? I will probably end up doing the installation myself, since i have some experience in the area of electronics, soldering, etc.....

I doubt you have one of the newest 1.4 or 1.5 units, they are mostly being sold overseas from what I understand, not only that but your unit is almost a year old. The 1.4 and 1.5 can be modded, I believe Team Xodus released a BIOS which is compatible (Team Xecuter has yet to release one and likely won't until the Xecuter 3 comes out).

I'd go with an Xecuter 2.2 Lite.

The Pro is actually the better chip or at least it should be. It has an external parallel interface which allows you to recover from a bad BIOS flash and can hold up to four different BIOS files.

then why do more people choose the lite version?

The Lite is cheaper. Another reason why I personally prefer the Lite is because the FFC on the Pro chips is poorly designed, even in the newer 2.1 and 2.2 chips it's still poorly designed but at least with the newer chips if the FFC is damaged the chip is still useable, with the older Pro chips if the FFC was damged the chip was useless.

what's the FFC do? new to this so yeah... oh i thought i remember seeing that they were making a new version. if they are, when will that be out?

The FFC is a cable that connects the external parallel adapter to the modchip, they tend to be poorly designed and can be damaged easily.

The Xecuter 3 will be the next from Team Xecuter and they are supposed to come out around Christmas.

  • 2 weeks later...

99.9% of the skins look like CRAP. the xbox-scene has no design skill whatsoever. we are spoiled by the amazing artists on neowin.

there's like 1 theme for evox i like, and 1 or 2 for mxm that are alright, and that is it.

Get MXM or xbox media player if you want better looking skins.

XBMP with the windows media center skin is great... MXM has some nice skins out. You can always try making some skins as well. I started making my own (and robbing parts from other skins) looks like this

evox is way to basic to look any good imho

I want to try out avalaunch after reading about the new version over at xbox-scene. Evox is really basic but that is what was the modder used. I'm only reading about the other dashes now.

he guys, i just got a new panasonic flat tube (tau) tv. and i have my xbox connected using the default video cable. i was expecting this to be tack sharp, but i must say, i'm disappointed. the lines aren't straight, they are kinda squiggly (like a sine wave). is this because i'm using the default vid cable? do i need to buy the advanced one and use the component input or something?

Anything besides the packaged cable will be an improvement. I bought the Monster S-Video cables for mine. If your TV has the inputs, you can go for component cables which is the better of the three.

component is better than s-video?

so i need to get the advanced av pack? i still don't get the difference between the 2 av packs...

whats the difference between the hd av pack, and the advanced av pack?

The High Definition AV Pack uses component cables to connect to your television and will output a HD signal for monitors that support it. The Advanved AV Pack uses either S-Video or RCA to connect to your television.

Both have the optical connector but neither come with the actual optical wire.

The HD AV Pack is the best because the component connection is best, and of course if you have an HD monitor then you'll be able to play games in HD.

As far as your problem I'm not sure what exactly is causing that but I would go with the component connection either way.
