Modded Xbox thread

well if you have the switch installed (which i'm sure you do), one of them is to switch between banks 1&2, and banks 3&4. if you use 512kb bios, you can fit one on banks 1&2, and a second on banks 3&4.

i think allxboxskins.com has thumbs/vids. if not, there should be links to places in the mxm forum.

have you tried using ccxstream?

i just followed the tutorials in the xbmc forum. it's a pain to make sure your .ini is perfect, no typos or anything. have you tried following the tutorials?

I have. I can see everything but it doesn't stream. Funny thing is that pictures work perfectly. I'll give ccxstream a try next.

allxboxskins has gotten really damn slow the past couple of days. Only other place that I see is IRC.

Yeah there is a switch. I think the last one switches between them. I'll have to read up on it and give it a shot.

if you go to xbox-scene.com, there is a section in the forum where modders post their info. I live in Manhattan so I found a guy near me. His nick is NachoNut. Cool guy. Ended up costing me $120 for installation for the mod, bigger harddrive (my own) and dashboard. Guy did a great job. I probably could have did it myself but I spent enough buying everything I needed so I didn't want to take chance of messing things up. I do intend on learning how to do it myself one day though. Came out to around $400 for everything.

how can i check his rep? another strange thing, but i guess it seems logical ---

he wants money up front (he says so he can buy the hd online) and then he said install is a week or more (becuz he has to wait for the hd to come)... is this normal?

hey, first post here...

i modded my xbox a while back with an xecuter2 and 120Gb drive and have since modded several for other people. i always thow on EvolutionX for a dashboard, DVD Region X for dvd play without the dongle/remote pack, and a lot of other applications for playing movies/music, ripping games and movies on to the drive. to get all that stuff installed, configured for their network, etc. it does take something like a week depending on when the order for the harddrive is placed. i can't say that it's cool that the guy who's to mod your system is doing things in a "normal" fashion (i try to remain as available as possible to my customers), the week wait time and that price tag sounds to be about right, as the configuration and installation can be somewhat time consuming (setting the system up to play steaming media across a network can be a pain in the @$$). actually, unless he's getting a pretty sweet deal on the drive, i'd say he's breaking almost even.

one thing i'd be curious about-- is he setting up your xbox to still be able to boot back to the MS Dashboard and to be able to use XBox Live (for legit, not copied game)? if he's not... let me know, i'll hook you up with a great util that will let you do just that.

BS...insurance enough that he has your xbox. there should be no reason for him to ask for money. the guy that did mine never even asked.

Well for NachoNut, the guy had like over 100 posts in his thread recommending him. Try finding someone else.

make sure anyone installing a chip for you also installs switches to turn on/off the mod. Perhaps he wants money upfront for the harddrive. I still would be careful. Also, NachoNut did everything in a 24 hr period.

Don't mail out to anyone unless its to something like system-mods.com. NachoNut did charge me but he didn't ask for the money upfront. The Xbox should be enough for the guy as collateral if he actually thinks you might screw him. The only other thing I can think of is that he needs the money to order the stuff.

yup, im going with system-mods now, this guy never called me back, or imed me or nothing, i looked on xbox-scene, and system-mods got great reviews, plus its only 13 dollars more (not including shipping) and seems like a heck alot more reliable... i wanted to ask them 2 questions but there closed now, and over the weekend - wonder if any of you know if....

the only allow you to order the xec. 2.2 lite or pro, (do these come with switches - they dont say) ; also what is the difference? i know must ppl have the lite, but the pro is more expensive... if money was an object which would you choose and why?

also, if i was going to get an install of a 120 hd and an xec. chip, what all do they do? install evox? or programs or anything? or do i have to all that? they just do the labor?

- thanks in advance... ;)

Chips from the 2.1 and on have external switches (2.1 2.2 2.3).

The difference is that the Pro has an external parallel programming interface. The Pro can also hold 4X256k BIOS, 2X512k or 1X1mb.

Personally I'm not a big fan of the FFC on any of the Pro chips, but it is nice to have the peace of mind and know that if anything should happen to your chip you can always reflash it via your PC's parallel port.

I doubt they do anything other than physically install the hard drive.

thats what i was thinking too, but wudnt they need to install evox or w/e to swap hdd's and transfer files (if they even do )..

got this off their site... "If you wish to reflash your X-Ecuter modchip, then you may not buy from us. By purchasing from our site you agree to not use any hacked or illegal BIOS(s) and only use legitimate BIOS(s) on your X-Ecuter modchip. i.e. Legal Cromwell Linux Bios 1.8. We can not provide you with any BIOS(s) OR tell you how to locate or download any other BIOS(s) files."

-- so that means, i burn an iso of evox on a cdrw and set up evox my self? i guess i could do that, will i have to do any reflashing or anything?

You are going to have to do everything, including unlocking the original drive (if you plan on getting a bigger one) installing and formatting the new drive, locking it (if you intend to use Live), putting your original dashboard files and your new dashboard files, and flashing the chip.

If anyone is interested in premods feel free to PM me and we can see what we can work out.

I did all of the Xboxes here.

Anybody can mod a xbox, it takes about 5 minutes to put the chip in...

then turn it on put sommet like evox/mxm with a ftp server on it onto a cdrw, let it boot up and ftp your new dashboard to c:\ (remember to backup the hard drive)

thats it, if you bugger it up you can always boot from the cd... all in all about 10minutes work

if you want to lock and unlock the hard drive you use "config magic" , with this you just use the on screen menu and click a button to unlock/lock the hard drive..

any monkey can do it, and you learn something by doing it yourself... and dont use slayers its for people who are completly retarded (unless your modding someone elses xbox and couldn't give a crap ;) )
