Dazzla Veteran Posted June 7, 2003 Author Veteran Share Posted June 7, 2003 Holy crap, I just bought the DVD playback kit today and XBMP is a MILLION times better. It's so freaking amazing! Oh man, I just cannot get over how goddamn sweet it is! I can do stuff now which I didn't realise I could do in XBMP, now that's what I call cool :D stuff like 2x FF and then 4x, 8x, 16x, 32x, 64x etc info button brings up which codec and all the other information, everything is so much more logical. Pleased as hell. <--------- SO DAMN PLEASED!
.KICK
I got 64x ff on my normal xbox but not the codecs, sounds cool though *edit Dazzla, i added you to my friends list, just waiting for accept, you gonna play MotoGP2 today?*
Dazzla Veteran Posted June 7, 2003 Author Veteran Share Posted June 7, 2003 Ya, press the info button on the remote and a little panel slides down from the top and displays what video codec and audio codec: video: XVID (Xvid(MPEG-4)) fps: 25.00 718x378audio: (OggVorbis Audio Decoder) VBR br: 192000 sr: 48.00 khz chns: 2 Cool stuff  Display button switches from Full screen to XBMP with the film in the bottom left  Too cool  All they've gotta do is make a DVDx3 with remote support and dongle free playback to please everyone, or vastly improve the DVD playing ability of XBMP. *edit Dazzla, i added you to my friends list, just waiting for accept, you gonna play MotoGP2 today?* I haven't even taken it out of the shrink wrap

Roger H. Veteran Posted June 7, 2003 Veteran Share Posted June 7, 2003 well i should say i got mine today too.. well yesterday. My girl bought it for me and drove down from MA (Massauchusettes - spelling) .. but she thought i wanted a PS2 so that's what she bought... good thing she got it at circuit city so we took it to my local one and exchanged it for the Xbox (since they the same price) then got Enter The Matrix (instead of wolverine's revenge that she bought with the PS2) and now i'm kicking ass on Matrix!!! W000000t !! I think i'mma marry this girl.... It was totally a surprise too cuz those who know her (or about her) knows she's not that typa girl to go spending huge sums of money on any guy cuz she doesn't get attached that much or doesn't show it.... but boy she's being real mushy with me and everyone of her friends is shocked (hehe, only if they knew why, "Mr Loverman" - Neobond, is hard at work ;) ) But damn i love it and i love her too even more!! Been playing it since morning... got it connected to my router too so life is good!! I have my friends PS2 here too that she never really used and only had Tekken Tag Tournament for.. she mainly used it as a dvd player but i built her a system with DVD and CDRW so she uses that as her DVD system now so this was just sitting there collecting dust... so i "borrowed" it but she prolly wont miss it too much and all, i can keep it as long as i want basically... so now i got a PS2 and Xbox!! :D Life is good :D

siniik
Anyone interested in getting the mod chip but does want to do the modding might want to check this out.. http://www.the-console-corner.com/xecutor2...in_adaptors.htm It is a special adapter that you can use with the Xecutor 2 light or pro. No Soldering needed. This is what i'm buying once I get the extra $30 for the pogo pin adapter.

Of course, if you absolutely must have a x2 pro then you would have to buy the adaptor.
cerbero
I got the mod in today, and goddamn I'm pleased! XBMP is amazing, and everything's been smooth as hell. I also set up XBMP as my default dash. Next I'm going to format the F partition to allow for more sweetness :) After reading what Dazzla said, I'm gonna get the DVD kit also. It'll be a while though, since I'm short on money right now. StOnD
As a vetran Xbox modder, the best word of advice I can give to those of you considering a mod: STAY AWAY FROM POGO PINS. Especially the Executer ones. They are much more difficult to align than the matrix because they do not have the LED. If you are not confident in your soldering, have your chip installed by a professional. The header pin install is hands down the best install method. The Xecuter 2 Lite is a great chip, I highly recommend it. I haven't dealt with the chameleon yet but I hear it's good too. Great features with an unbeatable price. Another word of advice: when buying a replacement hard drive, bigger is better. Expecially if you intend to backup your games to it. 120 GB sounds huge but space goes very fast. Load times off the hard drive are great, so much faster than from the DVD. Modded Xboxes are great, hands down one of the most kickass pieces of hardware you can buy. MS shouldn't be trying to defeat the modding community, they should be offering them jobs! Especially team XBMP.

I've tried MCE on my PC, and XBMP is far, far superior. Just goes to show the talent involved.
StOnD
Also, TiVo style video recording is quite possible on the xbox. The biggest limiting factor is that its CPU is a little slow for real-time MPEG encoding. The AV interface on the back of an xbox is capable of input, but a special adapter must be made in order to connect AV sources. This may be possible through modification of the HighDef AV pack. It would take some serious skill to make something like this work though.
Toxicfume Veteran Posted June 7, 2003 Veteran Share Posted June 7, 2003 Man, this thread is sure making me want to get an xbox, but no moolah at the moment. Dazzla, i'm still waiting for the pics

cerbero
Is anyone else having trouble with sending large files to the Xbox via FTP? At first, I get about 3-6 MB/s, and all is good, but when the hard drive in the Xbox gets down to about 1.2 Gigs of free space, the transfer crawls down to 3-400 KB/s. I know that it's not my network, because I can transfer between my computers with full speed, and both they and the Xbox are connected to the same 100 Mbit switch. I can usually solve network woes, but this is making my head spin :) Oh, and it's not because of my router, since I get the same results when just using a crossover UTP cable between the Xbox and the Mac (or PC, since the problem is the same no matter which machine I'm using). Also, I've tried a lot of different FTP clients without anything changing. And it doesn't matter whether I'm running EvolutionX or XBMP, still the same. Anyone got any ideas? o_87
Okay here is a question: I was reading somewhere that you can only have a harddrive that is 137GB or less in an xbox, which is why many people get a 120GB. Is this true?

Cerbero, your xbox hard drive is probably fragmented. It's going around filling empty spaces with your files and thats slowing it down. o_87, yes the IDE controller in the xbox (nVIDIA MCPX) has a 28 bit maximum LBA address bus and therefore cannot recognize more than 137 GB on the hard drive. If you put in a bigger drive, it will show as 137 GB. Some people put in 160 GB drives just for the extra 17 gigs. Not worth it IMO but with the falling prices of hard drives it's becoming more and more reasonable. Edited June 8, 2003 by StOnD
