Modding an Xbox and overclocking a PC is far from the same thing though. I modded my Xbox to be able to use Xbox Media Player and other great homebrew software, turning my Xbox into a true media center, more than Windows XP MCE can ever hope to be :)

To be honest, that's the reason I even got the Xbox at all. If I could just use it for games only, I wouldn't be interested :)

heh, i overclock my pc a ton and am gonna mod my xbox. i guess i like to get the most out of what i buy. as long as you do it right, neither should really compromise the product.

I noticed something today, the music I ripped on my PC and FTP'ed over isn't sorted alphabetically. Is there a way to make it sort alphabetically in XBMP?

I don't think there is.. Only way would be to have the track numbers in the file names and have XBMP not read the ID3 tags.

You're going to love it, my son has had his modded for quite some time now and I am still enjoying the hell out of that thing daily.....

He has an X2 Pro (Soon to be replaced with a Lite 2.1) and a Maxtor 120GB, it's a nice setup....

Xbox VS PS2 is a good discussion, but Modded Xbox VS PS2, the Xbox wins hands down....

Mod chips are NOT illegal. I think in the US it's illegal to sell them (which is one of the reasons they cracked down on ISOnews), but not to own. Don't quote me on that though, and feel free to correct me if I'm wrong. Anyway, in Europe we're all good :)

What's illegal is the hacked Microsoft BIOS that you have to flash the mod chip with to be able to run Xbox software (I'm not counting except Linux, which you can use a legal BIOS for). The BIOS isn't even illegal in some countries, though I don't know the details of which countries that is.

Aha! Finally, after about a month of work, I've finally got my modded xbox fully working. And I did it all by myself. I feel like 1337 ha><0r!

Now I have to mod the case. I've already done the stickers method, and it looks pretty damn cool already, but I'm thinking of replacing the jewel and adding a cold cathode around it under the top of the case. :D

Well, if I do that, then I'm probably also gonna change the leds that go around the power button to match the cathode. I'm thinking a bright blue...

Why don't you read what Cerbero said, and in fact read the link you said. Of course we can discuss them! That's not illegal, if I walked into a police station and started talking to a mate about my modded Xbox I wouldn't get arrested (especially here seeing as the DMCA is a US thing). If someone set up a thread selling modchips, that's a different matter altogether. This thread is breaking the rules as much as someone talking about underage drinking, or getting a hickie.

Use the report to mod feature if you think it's breaking the rules, don't trample all over a thread moderating other members.

Hi ppl,

Glad your enjoying your xboxes :)

I have a couple of question's maybe you can answer.

Q1. i have installed the apps e.t.c. via slayer's install and access them via a evox boot cd if i have that correct, i want to get my xbox to automatically boot to evox to get rid of the boot cd. ?

Q2. i have several movies that i have burned onto dvd but i cannot fathom out how to select multiple files to play. i.e. one movie may span more than one file so i want to play it without having to stop half way through ? is there an equivalent to a shift key to select multiple files? there must be some way unless you have to create a playlist on the dvd first ????

thanks in advance

Answer to Q1 - There are two ways of doing this -

1. Network your xbox to your computer (I can't help you with this part, but there are plently of tutorials out there on networking). Boot your evox cd. Go into the settings in evox and find out what your xbox's network IP is. Start up and ftp program on your computer. Ftp into your xbox with xbox:xbox as your username/pass. Upload into your xbox's C: the default.xbe and the evox.ini from your computer's harddrive. On your xbox's C:, rename xboxdash.xbe to msdash.xbe, then rename deafult.xbe to xboxdash.xbe. Take out your evox cd and reboot the xbox.

2. Download a copy of boxplorer and burn that in the root of a cd, with evox in a folder on that same cd. Putting the cd in your xbox should boot boxplorer. Using the explorer, copy all of evox onto the C:, then follow the renaming things I said above.

i don't see what the big deal about talking about mod chips, mike. first of all, if you believe in all that DMCA crap, you have issues. that should be the illegal thing, not modding your xbox. it's ridiculous that i can legally buy my xbox, put in a legal modchip for legal uses, but because of the dmca, that becomes illegal. wanna explain how that makes sense?

this whole "i'm only licensing my xbox from ms, i don't actually own it, therefore i have to follow the terms of the contract" is just insane, and another ploy to screw over the average consumer. i'm sorry, but if i pay for my xbox, it's mine, i don't care what the contract says or what the dmca says. it's out of control with all these stupid agreements these days, most of which are non-binding anyways.

To put it bluntly, you can't be arrested for talking about modchips, you can't be arrested to owning a modded Xbox. Simple fact, that's that.

Edit, look at that, 9999 posts. I'm never gonna post again! :D
