BlackSteyrAug
Does anybody know of any RTS games styled like Age of Empires, by that I mean the era and general gameplay, but without a population limit. I play the original and the limit is 50, which is like nothing at all. I want literally unlimited. Any ideas? I'm willing lower my standards, it doesn't need to be exactly like AOE, but if possible. jonhapimp
i believe newer ones have an higher cap, but look at rise of nations
strekship
With RON you can edit the game files to allow you to do almost anything to the limits/rules.
ahmz
If you play multiplayer against the AI then you can have a 200 pop limit.
Chsoriano
I used to play Empire Earth II a lot (it's now quite old) but it had a population limit of like 2000... quite a bit more generous than age of empires II. Don't assume that Empire Earth III is better than II though... :\ I've always preferred Age of Empires for visuals, but Empire Earth II was cool because of the huge pop. caps. Is RON a true RTS? I always thought you controlled multiple units at once instead of individual units... kind of like the Empire games (Empire: Total War)
strekship
I think some infantry units spawn in groups of three, but thats about it. If you play multiplayer against the AI then you can have a 200 pop limit. All you have to do is modify one of the game XML files and you can set the pop caps to whatever you want. Don't assume that Empire Earth III is better than II though... :\ Unfortunately I made them mistake of buying EEIII before reading the reviews on it. I just assumed it would be at least as good as EEII. Oh well there is $20 i am never getting back in life.
Chsoriano
All you have to do is modify one of the game XML files and you can set the pop caps to whatever you want. Is that for AoE III? Can you tell me which xml file to edit, I've looked at a couple but couldn't find it Unfortunately I made them mistake of buying EEIII before reading the reviews on it. I hadn't played any Empire Earth game in a couple years, then finally decided I wanted to play it so I picked up EEIII... needless to say I ended up rummaging through a bunch of old stuff just to find my EEII box :)
strekship
Oh sorry. I thought you were referring to RON. I don't know about any ways of increasing the pop cap in AOE. Edit: Check this out and see if it does what you want: http://aoe3.heavengames.com/downloads/show....php?fileid=182 http://aoe3.heavengames.com/downloads/show....php?fileid=798 Edited September 19, 2009 by strekship

Thanks! warcraft III with a map edited game? Normal's 90, though. Warcraft III is a good game, I would recommend it as well. It can be a little difficult though, especially if you've never played it or if you haven't played it in a long time
BlackSteyrAug
I was thinking about checking out a game called Cossacks, anybody familiar/played this game?
:: Lyon ::
Haven't played Cossacks before It's funny that I actually love the opposite.. having a limited pop means more strategy/finding the right combination involved rather than quantity wins quality :D but I guess everyone has a different taste/opinion

ToneKnee
Cossacks is good, get the expansions as well. You can have big battles across big maps, and it has the whole generation age thing. Talking of which, I must re-install that game. Though, if you wanted something a little different but love the idea of big battles and stuff, try Total Annihilation. Futuristic I know, but with some mods, the amount of battles and the size of them are great. An oldie but a goodie! :)
laq3
I'm surprised no one mentioned Starcraft. Sure, it's not the AOE medieval style, but it's nevertheless a great (if not the best) RTS game. There's a pop limit @ 200, but a unit may take up more than 1 population, so army size is comparable to AOE.

Yeah, it's a fun game, unfortunately any more than the regular once a month is more than enough for me.
nubs
You might like Majesty 2. If you want to try a classic... give Master of Magic a try. It's abandonware.
