Monkey Island 2 in Crysis engine

Recommended Posts

This video is an experiment done for fun. It demonstrates how original Monkey Island 2 backgrounds look and feel in a modern 3d game engine. The sets were built using Maya and then exported into Cryengine's Sandbox editor.

This is a followup to my other Monkey Island 2 videos that showed how to "convert" 2d concept art into 3d scenes using camera projection techiques.

I have never played Monkey Island, but this 3D preview oozes with atmosphere and style! Something that is very lacking this gen :(

This gen feels very stale when it comes to consoles compared to last, especially if you're like me and you like games like Ratchet & Clank, Psychonauts, Sly Cooper, Jak & Daxter, etc. I understand that those games don't sell as well as shooters and sports games. It's such a shame, but I guess it's what companies need to do in order to survive now. I think the freshest/stylistic game this gen is probably Bioshock & Mirror's Edge.

NO!

All the 3D Monkey Island games sucked.

No way! Escape from Monkey Island might not've been great but it was no worse than Curse. And Tales of Monkey Island is shaping up to be as fun as LeChucks revenge. It's brilliant so far.
