rageagainstmachine
Recently re-installed this game after buying it the day it came out. I quickly became frustrated with it the first time and stopped playing it. However, decided to give it another go, as it does look like a great game. Anyway, my main problem is, I suck! i dont normally play RPGs, Im sitting here with next to no life, and a couple of crappy pistols. I guess I need tips on how to regenerate my life, and tips for killing the enemy better! Im currently trying to find a bed as the game tip said this will help??! But I keep getting killed by the raiders! I have a couple of 10mm pistols, and police baton, how ever I reckon I could kill them quicker by spitting on them. and some mutated thing keeps scaring the life out of me everynow and again! :-) anyway, I find a good hiding spot and arm my VAC, then give them a couple of rapid shots to the head, but never kills them, they end up finding me and killing me! So please help! Thank you.
The_Decryptor Veteran Posted September 21, 2009 Veteran Share Posted September 21, 2009 Find a bed and find a better gun. I went the good route and went to Megaton (right out of the vault) and helped the Sheriff, which gives you a permanent house to sleep in and store things in. Argote
You should also know that you can fasttravel using the map when not in immediate danger.

Yep, I did that too :) I've read if you arm the bomb in Megaton you get a place in Tenpenny Tower and get to watch the fireworks...I might start a new character sometime just to try that out
trag3dy
If you use the T button you can rest, and it heals you fully. Even resting 1 hour will do that. You of course cannot do that while enemies are near though. I blew up Megaton and you do get a suite in Tenpenny Tower.
rageagainstmachine
t-BUTTON? so if i sit somewhere (Hidden) for an hour, i should be good?
The_Decryptor Veteran Posted September 21, 2009 Veteran Share Posted September 21, 2009 No, you actually have to rest/wait, which is the T button on the keyboard by default (V for VATS, E for Use, Z for pickup, etc.)
rageagainstmachine
ah cheers, so much to learn :-)
Badie05
Pickup enemy loot. Only way to get more weapons at the start seeing as your broke and ammo is scarce. That quickly changes after a few quests.
The_Decryptor Veteran Posted September 21, 2009 Veteran Share Posted September 21, 2009 Yeah, I can't even remember how I got a room full of Tesla Armour, 2 pairs of Hellfire Armour, and 5 Laser Rifles, 2 Plasma Rifles, 3 Missile Launchers, etc. It just kinda happens. idioot
Weapons that are in a good condition do more damage. So find one or two more of the pistol you got and repair one with the others, using R in weapons menu.
trag3dy
ah cheers, so much to learn :-) And it doesn't actually take a real hour. It's just one hour "in game" which is like 5 seconds, if that. The resting "time" is sped up.
rageagainstmachine
Cheers guys, managed to kill a couple of molerats and some wild dogs, got a little bit more health. And just killed some old ghoul to get his shotgun. Thanks for all your tips
FloatingFatMan
Make sure you use VATS when in combat as well (Press V). Makes things SO much easier, especially at the start.
The_Decryptor Veteran Posted September 22, 2009 Veteran Share Posted September 22, 2009 I still rely on VATS in close quarters fights, my aim sucks. Long distance though I free aim, I've got 100 Small Guns and Energy Weapons, no sway at all.
Daninku
You're making me install this game, but it's too difficult for me :p Also, the beginning was interesting when I first played it, but it's too annoying to do it again for the second time.. seeing it takes quite a good time lol
rageagainstmachine
Yes, this game rocks! those little tips you gave me were invaluable. :-) now, off on a quest in grey dicth
solardog
This game gives me an eye headache if I haven't played for awhile, love it tho...the game, not the ache.
SyntaxError
Sneaking constantly is a huge help, and always take headshots when free aiming. Even a character fresh from the vault can take out raiders in the elementary school with single headshots from the 10mm pistol if you sneak up on them. And you should find a baseball bat as well. It's better than the police baton. Always keep a melee weapon in case you run out of ammo. Good luck in Grayditch. Those fire ants can be a pain. downtheory
Also, in the event that you have to restart the game (which for me seems to happen often), you could try out my little bro`s "End of Vault" save game. No perks, no mods, just a simple save game, you edit the character`s name, etc etc to your liking, then off you go! :) I`ve found it handy...not everyone`s cup of tea though... You can find it here @ Fallout Nexus: End of Vault Save If you have Point Lookout, I recommend going there as soon as you can, there are some pretty decent weapons to help you in early stages of the game... rageagainstmachine
thanks downtheory, that may come in useful. Why would one need to restart the game though, pressumabluy if you make thewrong decisions?
The_Decryptor Veteran Posted September 23, 2009 Veteran Share Posted September 23, 2009 I can't think of any reason to actually restart the game, you can't really break it (NPC's may vanish though, so you might need to rely on the console sometimes) Save often though, and in new slots, I've got nearly 50 saves from different areas and points in the game.
