Ayepecks
Huh? Halo bashing? I like Halo. I've never made any secret of that. I just don't think it's the end-all-be-all of console gaming. And I was being 100% serious. Halo hasn't aged very well, but it still has its moment. GoldenEye is the same way IMO.
Dead_Monkey
Its not feasable to recode the game from scratch and there is no way nintendo would let a remade version of the game come out to the 360 while the wii gets stuck with the original. More the latter than the former, there was a version up and running on 360 already, with updated textures etc, ala the Marathon port.

Dead_Monkey
Halo's ok, but the Halo expanded universe is more compelling to those of us who swallowed our pride and read the books. Hopefully Reach will remedy that. I think there's a certain amount of annoyance from the older gamers relative to the people who consider Halo the defining pioneering FPS on console. We were playing Faceball, Doom, Quake 64, Powerslave, Turok, Quake 3, Unreal Tourney etc well before it came out, with plenty of enjoyment including online and couch deathmatch and LAN (well, serial cable) support. It's the same attitude that people who played Ultima Underworld (Blue Sky/Looking Glass FTW) feel about Wolfenstein 3d. Wolf was more popular, but it was hardly the first and the very same year that it was coming out, another team was releasing a far more fully realized first person game with walls that weren't stuck at 90 degree angles, actual textured ceilings and floors, sector height changes, up and down looking, transparency etc. It's great too, but people who are only fans of Halo are often blind to the historical context that preceded the game. It's like people who don't acknowledge on any conscious level that there was a Final Fantasy before 7 (if they sat and thought it through they'd realize there must be, but they don't ever get that far). .KICK
Why we talking about Halo? This is about GoldenEye. It would've been nice to see this release, I wonder how it would've been with a smooth frame rate. I remember the days of the frame rate dropping so much! Still loved the game though. whYeNQue
people love the games for the multiplayer... and perfect dark was by far a greater multiplayer experience. (apart from becoming dizzy when respawned cos of corpse slapping and injections, but they may fix that for the port) if you still want your single player goldeneye experience, it may just be cheaper to buy an N64 and a goldeneye cartridge - or if you are like me, you did the sensible thing and kept it when you bought it 10 years ago

You say that like it's a bad thing, who wants to be a sheep, but no, that's not my intention. Apparently you can't dislike a game now without having an agenda! Subject Delta
Nope, merely trying to point out the fallacy in your argument that a game made in 1997 is 'aging'... What do you expect
Vice
Go back and play it now and its aged very badly. This is a really silly thing to say considering the game came out in 1997 and was basically the beginning of all modern first person shooters. You should respect its legacy and it hasn't aged at all its a static piece of software.

Dead_Monkey
Half life didn't ship until 1998. I think it was over a year overdue at that time though :)

ToneKnee
I remember GoldenEye for being a piece of crap, didn't like it at all. And Doom and Half life are the ones which "revolutionised" online play.
carmatic
goldeneye was revolutionary for its console multiplayer component ... which on the N64 meant split screen 4 player deathmatches, as opposed to how its done on the PC where you have a LAN or a modem and stuff... Subject Delta
I was referring to Multiplayer, not internet gaming
The Teej
Goldeneye was revolutionary, but only in the console scene. It had all been done before in the PC space. Still though, that's not to de-merit GE as it was an impressive technical achievement for its day. It's aged okay, but other games like Ocarina of Time, Majora's Mask, Episode 1 Racer and Mario 64 have definitely aged better.
Smigit
Nope, merely trying to point out the fallacy in your argument that a game made in 1997 is 'aging'... What do you expect  He said aged badly but...as opposed to aging well. There's a difference... and to be honest I think I'd agree. As per my original post, SP could probably hold up but unless you were playing split screen, multiplayer GE would be a complete mess IMHO unless they rebalanced the maps and weapons. Considering MP is half of what made the game in the first place if they couldnt make it fun and fair to play over Live then I think the game would struggle to recapture the feel of old. Live play would be very different to sitting on a couch with mates screen cheating and I think XBox Live would could hurt the GE experience.
