crazzyyfool
You could and it might work but it wouldn't be legal. If the iMac can boot of the MBP Install DVD you pretty much good to go. ;) Just try it and see. But you didn't here that from me. :p
what
No you can't. The drop-in DVDs that come with new Macs are written so they can only be used on that type of Mac.

Master1
the disk works on all
Hendrick
Same thing would happen on any Windows Computer. You're paying for the license, not the disk.
drshdw
the disk works on all Unless they changed something, it usually doesn't/shouldn't. Also OP you can probably spare $30. Think about it, if you buy a PC with Windows 7 and you have an older PC with Vista, you can't use the 7's dvd to upgrade your Vista install..
the evn show
You're comparing a car to an OS? Same sense of entitlement, so yes. I you want to draw the line at something closer to $30: I've spent $1,500 on Cirque Du Soleil tickets in the last year: does that entitle me to a 'free' t-shirt form the Ka theatre gift shop? Can i use this CD labeled as "Macbook Pro" on my iMac to install snow leopard? i currently have 10.5.8 on my iMac and i would like to upgrade to 10.6 Wouldn't it be easier to just pop it in and give it a try? If you can boot into the install process, you'll know it works.
what
You're comparing a car to an OS? Okay, how about looking at this without an analogy. Why should buying a piece of hardware entitle you to an unlimited OS X license?
offroadaaron
Okay, how about looking at this without an analogy. Why should buying a piece of hardware entitle you to an unlimited OS X license? How about we don't look into it in any way...... Obviously the OP doesn't get it I think its safe to say they are smart enough to make $30 or to try this themselves and refuses to acknowledge why they would need to pay for separate items. I bought $200 worth of items at the supermarket and I deserve a free packet of chips! :p
