JayArias
I start it up like I always do, then It shows me the grey Mac Loading Screen, It then shows loading Mac osx, then it just hangs in that window. I've tried the shift safe mode method the problem is that i'm running the sound through an external sound card and I cant hear when the tone comes on. I also don't have my mac osx cd, any ideas? gdodson
Hold Command-V while booting to enable verbose mode and see where it's hanging.
Simon Veteran Posted September 21, 2009 Veteran Share Posted September 21, 2009 Try starting up in verbose mode, as shown here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1492 Essentially boot while holding cmd+v. It'll print out everything that happens, and if anything fails or hangs while booting. If you see something wrong, let us know here.

winrez
Have you tried resetting your PRAM http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1379 1 Shut down the computer. 2 Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command, Option, P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step 4. Turn on the computer. 3 Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys. You must press this key combination before the gray screen appears. 4 Hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for the second time. Release the keys. Hope that helps
giga Veteran Posted September 22, 2009 Veteran Share Posted September 22, 2009 It would be nice to know what OS. Start in safe mode and remove your startup items.

JayArias
well see heres the problem... I don't have a restore disk I was thinking of buying snow leopard next week and just doing a fresh install -- if thats even possible.
giga Veteran Posted September 22, 2009 Veteran Share Posted September 22, 2009 You did try safe mode right...
Simon Veteran Posted September 22, 2009 Veteran Share Posted September 22, 2009 You should run fsck before trying anything else. You don't need a restore disk to boot into single user mode ;) Just hold Command+S while booting. When you're given the chance, type /sbin/fsck -fy , and see what comes up.
