Infinity Ward: We

Recommended Posts

The Internet may be showing all the textbook symptoms of Modern Warfare 2-mania, but it’s never too early to start anticipating Infinity Ward’s next game. Well, okay, this might be jumping the gun a bit, but still.

Videogamer asked Infinity Ward’s Robert Bowling about his company’s next project, to which he replied:

“Honestly we have no clue what our next game is. I’m planning on taking a nap for three months. And then maybe I’ll wake up.”

“When we feel like we can’t innovate any further in the Call of Duty franchise, then we’ll do something else. A lot of that mentality went into Modern Warfare 2. That’s why it’s Modern Warfare 2. It is Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, but you’ll never see that in game. We never call it that. It’s because we think of this as a new IP. This is our Modern Warfare 2 game. So we are constantly doing new stuff.”

“But yeah, eventually we’ll do something else, and it will be fun and it will be awesome and it will be fresh and it will be great.”

So there you have it. Infinity Ward’s eventual future won’t be modern. Or something.

I am glad that they wont try milking the MW franchise after they run out of ideas. Although I am sure if they leave the IP Activision will just give it to the next highest bidder or Treyarch. :(

Yeah, MW2 is a new IP. But with the same character from the first game and happens to be slapped with the CoD name (though not in game? ehhhh). Righttttt IW.

Personally, thought it'll NEVER happen. I'd love, LOVE to see IW do a reboot of the Medal of Honor franchise.

But MoH is made by EA. Activision would NEVER let them develop a game for them.

The MW series has infinite possibilities. I mean each Campaign could be a different story based on soldiers. Different enemies.. lots of twists could also be included.

Why? Call of Duty and MoH are basically the same thing.

Don't forget the majority of guys that made the first Medal of Honor started up Infinity Ward and made Call of Duty, so Ayepecks is right, it basically "is" Medal of Honor. Just with a different name.

Call of Duty 1 and 2 might be similar to the MoH series, but not really. MoH:AA is a classic that deserves to either be remade or a direct sequel created for. And I'm not talking about the craptacular MoH's we've had over the past 7 or so years.

And I know alot of the guys who worked on MoH started up IW. But the story telling and action are totally different. About the only thing similar between the first games in the series were the engines and the settings. :)

Infinity Ward: We’ll do something different when we run out of ideas

So am I the only one seeing the problem here ?

"Yeah where going to be doing the same thing untill we run out of idea of new things to do, then we'll try something new"

No it's not... it's a generic WW2 shooter like the rest of them. They need to let WW2 games rest for a while

Agreed. Medal of Honor was just a decent WW2 shooter released at the right time, at the peak of the "World War 2 fascination", nothing else.

Interesting situation with IW calling it MW2 internally and within the game, but Activision forcing the "Call of Duty" part onto the official name lol

Not really they did a "brand awareness" test (details are on the web somewhere) and it shown a majority of people didn't know it was part of the CoD franchise hence the title got slapped back on. :)

In game they say they have dropped the CoD name though.

The current CoD has dogs....

Do you mean the wolves? That is pretty crappy though, you don't touch them and they don't touch you.

I want dogs that can smell you and chase you until they kill you.

I love the contradiction of that statement. "We'll do something different when we run out of ideas". Its hard to do things when you've exhausted all your creativity on milking a successful IP. IW needs something new beyond MW and CoD. I personally would like to see them make either a true tactical shooter or possibly see them advance to a multilayered war game with a chain of command, battle plan and foot soldiers all controlled by individual players. I respect IW for doing a lot and making my favorite war game of all time (CoD2), but they need something new. Exploring new genres should spark some more great ideas from their heads.
