Footage starts about 2:05. I honestly don't think that was the game's fault. She was going crazy and the video montage didn't seem to be in sync either. I'm saying this because it was shown at E3 and Jimmy Fallon's late night, and it worked OK.

You can see the lag at 2:05 when she's fairly calmly moving her arms up and down. Burnout she was going a bit wild, but thing is, people who do "imaginary steering" tend to do that. It's hard to try and compensate for slight movements in direction while driving at 60mph+ and not actually holding anything that provides some resistance. If it's a year off I'm sure the lag will be cut down as the tech matures, but I just do not see this ever working good enough with something like Burnout (something that involves great speed and requires minimal changes in direction at times). I don't think the steering wheel demo is the best tech demo to show Natal off at all.
bdsams Veteran Posted September 23, 2009 Veteran Share Posted September 23, 2009 I just dont see this catching on to quickly, I guess it could be kinda cool for COD MW type games, but im not looking to run all over my house and take cover behind the couch....i jsut want to relax sometimes too
Smashing Pumpkin
To be fair, a) she is standing which makes it harder and b) she is completely useless, she turns the wheel around her whole body! And then, doesn't MS have any pride in itself? Why do they send this guy out to media appearances looking like this, he looks like the Big Lebowski gone wrong or something. I don't want a shirt and tie kinda guy, but the baggy horrible t shirt, the terribly awful beard...

+Audioboxer Subscriber² Posted September 23, 2009 Author Subscriber² Share Posted September 23, 2009 To be fair, a) she is standing which makes it harder and b) she is completely useless, she turns the wheel around her whole body! That's the issues MS face though, you don't have a controller and a pre-determined way of pushing a button you have hundreds, or thousands of children/adults all "doing it their own way". It's bad enough on the Wii sometimes when it registers your throw/hit wrong because you swung too fast, or did it at an angle, but with no controller at all you've gotta compensate for every single way someone might approach the game. That's why I don't think things that go really fast or require precision are going to work that well. People are going to make mistakes and it'll misfire at times, that will happen with all motion tech. There was even a few times on the ball demo where he/she swung for the first hit on the stationary ball and missed completely. With the tech being a year off though I'm sure it's got plenty of time to mature, if I were MS though I'd stop showing the driving demo and instead show a demo of painting or picking objects up and constructing things. Demos that are a bit more passive in nature and are more friendly with errors, at least until the tech is a bit further along. edit: And yeah that guy is an ass, he was at E3 as well :p
SMELTN
HAHA I can just see it now, some parent coming home and the house is DESTROYED.... Tables flipped over, lamps busted, etc, and seeing 2 kids pouring sweat, trying to explained they were being pinned down by insurgents on Call of Duty. coresx
I wonder if they are even using an improved E3 version. Looks like the same shoddy doesn't quite work demo like before.

George P Global Moderator Posted September 23, 2009 Global Moderator Share Posted September 23, 2009 They show the driving demo to show people and devs how you can get new tech to work with older games. Though you have to tweak it and stuff ofc. The point of it all is that, for devs, they can work it into their games at some level and not have to really write a whole game just specifically for it. Though that would be better in the end, maybe. It just depends how creative one is. In the end it's one thing to just show mini-game demos that are made specific for Natal, and another thing, and bigger, to show a game that's been out for quite some time working on the hardware in a good enough way that you can actually play it. Ji@nBing
Someone needs to tell that guy that wearing sunglasses inside makes him an automatic douche. Also, he might want to think of having a shave or going full beard. He looks like some bum they pulled off the street and slapped a tshirt and sunglasses on. I just can't take a thing he says seriously. As for the demo, it looked alright I guess. The Burnout didn't work too well, but it's probably because of the spaztic Japanese girl. Kind of cute though. I'd ravage her.

Apparently he has some sort of eye condition so that explains the sunglasses, but the beardesque thing on his face and the baggy casual wear is unforgivable :p
