Ubisoft announced at the Tokyo Game Show today that Splinter Cell Conviction will be out on both Xbox 360 and PC early next year.

As the headline says, that exact date is February 23. To celebrate, Ubi released the video below, which I like, because it features the lost art of shooting another man in the hands.

edit: Probably should've posted this in GH, forgot it was coming to PC.

ok that's it i'm calling this holiday gaming season off. not sure if it was even supposed to come out for xmas, but i had my hopes and now it seems the universe is cooperating with my poverty.

i'll just go back to staring at my 2007 calendar - namely Aug-Dec.

yeah from what they've shown of this one it might be the best in the series. loved the first one, didn't like the Pandora one, then liked the last one...you know where they think he's a traitor and has to inflitrate that militia-type organization. early onset senility, what can you...

Instead of starting a new topic, figured I would just post this in here...

A More Advanced Look At Splinter Cell Conviction

Kotaku has a walk-through video of a level of Splinter Cell Conviction with one of the developers doing commentary.

Article and Video Here

Gotta say, it is looking amazing visually, and I am glad they completely shifted gears from the original vision.

You've read Totilo's hands-on with Splinter Cell Conviction from the Tokyo Game Show; now watch game designer Dean Evans walk us through the level, showing off the game's innovative new features. This is the same mission Totilo played through at TGS earlier this year, only this time around they've got Ubisoft developers playing the game, so they didn't need to turn off God Mode. I actually understand where Stephen was coming from though. My first instinct when given a gun and a bunch of guards is to run in and shoot them all before they shoot me. It generally takes me at least an hour to slip myself into the stealth mindset required to guide Sam through his missions, and I definitely have to be in a stealthy sort of mood or it just doesn't work.

That having been said, Splinter Cell Conviction definitely has me in a stealthy sort of mood. Let's hope it lasts until February.

All the people screaming "Yay!", have you actually seen gameplay videos? This is obviously geared toward console dumbees with attention span of 5 seconds, who can't find the patience to play a proper stealth game. You can't actually look at crap like "Mark & Execute" (remember, previous games awarded for now killing at all) and the last known position, and take this game seriously. To quote someone from another forum, "Oh wow he was there 1 minute ago so lets just focus on that point ALONE even if he's showing himself 10 meters to the right."

The way everything was automated, aka aimbot, at E3 was a bit disappointing, but I'd rather give a new system a go before deciding it's useless to the game.

It has nothing to do with the automation (although that's laughable as well), it has everything to do with the idea that he kill everyone. He used to only kill 2-3 people in the entire game, now 2-3 may stay alive in the entire game. But what do I know? The current day console player must have pow-pow-pow or else he'll fall asleep.

That could just be the advertising side kicking in to try and appeal to masses - There's no doubting this console generation is all about killing absolutely everything and firing guns every 2 minutes. I remember when Heavy Rain was shown off for the PS3 and everyone was like "what, no guns? this game is going to suck".

Might be possible to do the game stealth if you choose to. Although who knows, this Splinter Cell has taken so many u-turns throughout development it's almost impossible to guess what they're doing.

Even MGS4 was revamped for a western shooter approach, but it's still possible to complete that whole game without killing one person.

You do realize the whole device that moves the story forward is revenge. And if I was a government agent who wanted revenge on my murdered daughter I would do more than just knock a few people out. I would create a ****storm everywhere I went until they knew that ****ed with the guy. So yeah there's that, but maybe you overlooked the storyline and the fact he no longer works for the NSA which restricted his killing.

Point is though if it turns into just a killing machine game with little choice, it might as well be called Hitman or Max Payne.

Sam Fisher is a stealth expert, it doesn't matter if the story is revenge, gamers will want him to still use and deploy what he does best.

Even if it offers some elements of stealth, the last-seen silhouette is one of the most ridiculous ideas ever. I'm willing to bet that even Batman Arkham Asylum, which is by no means a stealth game, has better gameplay than this "Splinter Cell".

i cant help but think that they cobbled that storyline around their new gameplay mechanics... dumb it down then dress it up...

If the game is this bad already in your head, there's no changing your mind even after it comes out. Especially since only one level out of the entire game has been debuted.
