Badtz-Maru
Hello, my brother gave me his 2007 Macbook to examine as it wouldn't power on. I have done a number of things to try and solve the problem: #swapped batteries and chargers with another mac user to determine whether mine were problematic (they weren't) #swapped keyboard module (with power button) to determine whether the power button was at fault (it still didn't work) #attempted to reset PRAM per directions of Apple (number 7 here (i do not know if the procedure was done properly, but it still doesn't start up) #attempted to reset SMC, so the same result as above The charger turns green when it plugs into the macbook, but does not appear to charge the battery (it was at 4 dots when i left it charging overnight and the status didn't change). The battery is fine because it worked in a friend's macbook (I just tested it earlier today). I also used the same friend's charger and the macbook still didn't start up. It's a 2007 model and has long been out of Applecare. All repairs will run up steep according to a quote at a local computer shop. Any help for other things to try? Badtz-Maru
ugh. I will head down to the apple store to see what I can do, but a logic board spare runs $350 online and will no doubt be higher if I get it replaced by a shop or Apple. This is the first motherboard failure I have had, ever, in a laptop and the first one involving a motherboard dying on its own. I bought a Lenovo the same year the macbook was purchased and the Lenovo is still running strong (with slightly less hours of on-time). But to have died after roughly 2.5 years no doubt makes me worried about Apple products.

Badtz-Maru
Could be bad memory. Yes, that's true. I replaced the original 1GB with 4GB earlier this year. I'm going to test the system with the stock RAM. EDIT: Still nothing :( Edited September 26, 2009 by Badtz-Maru
