Yesterday we were offering little gameplay clips of the Final Fantasy XIII double-demo. Today we bring you the extended cuts, and it begins with the first level dedicated to the electrizing Lightning, completed in seven minutes flat.

Unimpressed. :/ The graphics are completely different after the CGI cutscenes. I was blown away at the animations they had going until the level actually loaded it. The characters seem to float on top of the floors and the way they run is extremely awkward. I will hold off more judgment until I see a HD video with sound though.

They'll probably fix it, but lol at people thinking the game would look as good as squares pre-rendered cut scenes. We're not going to see that this gen. Hell, maybe by Final Fantasy 18 or 20, the hardware will be able to match squares level of prerendering with real-time.

People were just as happy when FFX came out on the PS2. Everything's amazing Nobody's happy.

I think the battle system in this will be quite cool but I was such a supporter of the system in FF12...

Saved so much time as it didn't have stupid battle swirls/loading set pieces, you could see all enemies on screen and kill/avoid what you wanted.

The best battle system in the FF series IMO.

I could never get into Final Fantasy, not even crises core for the psp but XIII looks like it can turn heads.

Oh look 360 posts woot woot!

I hate the lag transition between field and battles... and those running animations are no where near fluid. Assasins Creed had really nice ones.

They might be able to cut down on that lag time, we'll have to wait and see in a few months.

Still, it could've been worse I guess?

Has anybody played any other Final Fantasy games (mind you since FFVII where it was 3D)?

It looks like a no, since the running in every Final Fantasy has been crappy. Why notice it now? Its not like the game is a running simulator.

Because this is a 2009/2010 video game and touted as "next generation FF"?

I dunno, just a thought.

Same thing could have been stated years ago. The real thing is that it doesn't matter how the running animation is implemented. Its nitpicking.

So what? It's what people do. Everyone nitpicks things. The fact is squares been working on this, and still is, for 3years+ now, and if they want to hype the hell out of it like they often do, they might as well work on something as basic as the running.

Sure it's never been good in past FFs, but so? That doesn't change the fact it's off and could use work.

And it doesn't change the fact that it doesn't affect the quality of the game AT ALL. So why bother with something that offers no benefit?

Ergh, the battle system looks like its a step back from FFXII, a slightly more advanced FFX-2 one.

A loading before and a time waste of a menu afterwards? I can see that getting annoying in this day and age, I really thought we were starting to move away and they were going to make things more streamlined.

Can't say its looking as good as I had hoped, and as those who have pointed out, the whole animation and invisible walls in the pipe looked really bad, and what's worse, really obvious too.

You guys really can't make an off the top judgement like that.

Reviewers play these games and give ratings for what? Hands on experience.. You guys have to get this game in your hands to really make what you think of it.

Some people, me for one, didn't like the FFXII system at all, or the game itself for that matter. I find the FFXIII system better, more hands on and overall control of a semi-realtime battle system. Sure a more real-time system would've been better, I much like the one used in Star Ocean actually, being able to run around and change characters whenever and then jumping up close to fight or running back to cast spells use items etc.

Regardless, the time-gage system as I've seen looks very interesting to me. And the screen after the battle is over is a time waste? How? It gives you info about how things went. Why would that be a waste?

+1

Except for the SO bits, I haven't played that so can't say if I agree or disagree :p I will play it once it's out for PS3 though :D
