god, the people who voted no are such jerks for having their own opinion

Or no opinion at all, because no one cared to explain why they voted NO. How hard is it to write some opinion/comment on the subject?

So yeah, voting NO and not writing why, is lame.

voted yes, cuz i like the idea, i have a smartphone myself and cant wait to get to use it for more games

people who vote no... they seem to also be unwilling to contribute to the thread, its a correlation as i see it, everyone who posted something here is in support of it

im thinking its because they dont own a portable device themselves, and they dont know what to say in this forum, so they simply dont say anything

well if you going to make a poll don't expect everybody who votes to say something, polls don't work that way

especially most people voted yes

I included "No" in the hope that people would share some other ideas. Knowing what I know now, "No" would not be there. The only two logical choice should have been "Yes" or "I don't have a mobile".

Yup. We should get a Mobile Gaming Section. Between the Apple App Store and the Android Marketplace, there is enough going on to warrant a new forum. Android is only going to get bigger.

And who knows with Zune HD?

just saying the point of an poll is to get peoples opinion without expecting an answer,

anyways i voted no before you changed the original question so you can't expect someone to say no when they voted no before you changed it,can you?(which i now support yes)

that statement wasn't aimed at you but the other people in the thread

Just break the Mobile Gaming Forum into subforums for each specific handheld.

E.g.

->iPod/Iphone

->Sony PSP

->Nintendo DS

etc etc

I don't think it would be busy enough to require a bunch of subforums. My thread tagging idea would be the way to go IMO. Also, DS and PSP can stay where they are; in the Nintendo and Sony sections respectively. They are portable gaming "consoles". By "mobile" we mean MP3 players, cell phones, ect... Basically devices that aren't dedicated gaming machines, but that you can still play games on.

I changed my mind about it, and decided to vote no. Why?

All of the gaming forums here are friggen STAGNATE! First page posts go back more than 7 days in just about every sub-forum within the gaming section.

IMHO, all these forums should be consolidated into 1 "Gaming" forum, and we should do as Ji@nBing suggests and [TAG] our post subject lines as an official rule. Only reason to have sub-forums is if posts get rolled off the forum's first page too quickly.

I'm interested in the posts in all forums within the gaming section of Neowin, and it seems silly that I have to check each individual section for the 3 new posts each day.

I also think that the Personal Media subforum to Mobile Devices is also unnecessary.

There isn't really tons of gaming news every day, and a lot of that news gets consolidated in official topics for games.

Combining the Sony/MS/Nintendo/PC sections would just be dumb. The GH main forum is for the multiplatform stuff.

yeh, no need to get carried away after the 'classification' of the apple hardware as casual gaming platforms... maybe use the tags [iphone] [s60] [msx] [commodore] for the topics in the main section... i suppose a new subforum would be needed if there are consistently over 2 new topics a day for a platform

i guess i'm voting no too.

I just got my iPod Touch today and I'm wishing there was a dedicated mobile gaming subforum more than I did when I voted yesterday. We don't need dedicated subforums for iPod, Palm, ect., just a mobile gaming section where we can use tags like [iPod Touch] or [Palm Pre] for the threads would be good.

Sure, but do it all under one sub forum, not per a device. Theres too many devices and I doubt the category would be that active as it is, at least until Android and WM start becoming more competent in this field.

That and XBox and Sony's PS3 generally have console specific news. While the handsets too have news per a device, that will generally be best suited to the Hardware/Mobile category at the top I'd imagine more so than gaming.

Wait another month when all the big games start getting released ;)

The thing is, having it's own section would encourage discussion and topics. Right now, you see no discussion about mobile gaming, and I think it's not due to lack of interest or lack of people playing mobile games. It's due to there not being a place set aside for people to do so. I think probably more than any other platform, mobile gaming needs it's own section because of the sheer amount of games released. Reviews in the app store and such are not reliable. It would be great to have a place to discuss and get recommendations and such.

I think we should at least give it a try. If it's not active enough after a few months, it can be removed and all topics put into just the gamers hangout general forum. Really, there's nothing to lose. Now, I've never run a forum or such, so I don't know what's involved, but I'm pretty sure adding a subcategory only involves pressing a couple of buttons.

Just an FYI, while I am not able to discuss any real specifics, I can say this is still being discussed among the staff. Apparently it opened up a larger can of worms about the mobile sections overall. So honestly I would not hold your breath as it could be quite some time, we will see though maybe not.

For now, I suggest if you have a thread about a game, post in in the Gamers Hangout and put a tag on it as suggested earlier.

And let me just say, most games on the device suck right now. LOL Seriously though they do. Only a handful work well, and so far any game that attempts to use dual sticks is a huge fail for me, I guess I have bigger thumbs than normal people, so even Meteor Blitz which was getting such positive praise, etc., I absolutely dislike.

I only like a very few out of the 7 or so I have purchased, believe it or not I think Doom: Resurrection is the one that plays the best that attempts actual new controls for the device itself. Once you get used to its controls, and change the sensitivity, I really think it plays extremely well. Them deciding to make the hit area larger than what it shows visually for each action was pure genius on their behalf, as it means you do not have to hit the button perfectly to reload, etc. Only thing that is a little iffy is grabbing the items, but I definitely got used to that as well.

I am gonna try this Modern Combat 2 out now since I hear the controls are like doom but better (and three options) so anyone have any thoughts on it?

Peggle is still peggle though, meaning one of the most addictive games ever, and this marks the 3rd time I have purchased it (PC, 360, iPod). Its that good.

You're right about the games, most of them look like they suck. I went hunting for games last night and the best ones I could find were Peggle and Monopoly. I would have gotten Metal Gear Solid Touch but it looked like the controls would be too hard. I might wait until GTA Chinatown Wars comes out at the end of this year before I try out any more games on my Touch.

Say What!!!!!, awesome :) .

I think we should get one Mobile Gaming sub-forum, just for iPhone, Android, Zune, WinMo devices etc.

Kinda torn about moving PSP and DS into there.
